Mr Ma Chi Ngai, Chairman of the Council of Administration of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), visited Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) on 23 September 2014. During the visit, he commended the endeavours of MPI in science and technology research and expressed his anticipation of strengthening mutual collaboration and exchange in relevant areas. The delegation was warmly received by MPI President Professor Lei Heong Iok, Vice President Professor Yin Lei and the research personnel. Professor Lei expressed his appreciation for the great support FDCT has provided for the research development of MPI. He noted that, for quality enhancement purposes, the Computing Programme of MPI has been accredited by the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) since 2009 and, in 2013, MPI became the first higher education institution in Macao to have undergone a successful institutional review conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, a UK quality assurance agency of international standing.

Mr Ma thanked MPI for the hospitality and hoped that this visit may deepen the mutual understanding between FDCT and MPI. He noted the high practicality of MPI’s research facilities and research projects and provided MPI with his valuable opinions on its research development. At the meeting both parties exchanged their views on R&D in the context of Macao’s economic diversification in anticipation of contributing to the science and technology development of the Macao SAR.

During his stay at MPI, Mr Ma visited various research facilities at MPI, including the Molecular Biology Laboratory, the Chemistry and Physics Laboratory, the MPI-UCLA Joint Research Center in Ubiquitous Computing, the MPI-Melco Gaming and Entertainment Information Technology Research and Development Centre, the Digital Terrestrial Television Research and Testing Centre, and the IPv6 Network Research Laboratory. The FDCT delegation accompanying Mr Ma on his visit to MPI included Mr Cheang Kun Wai, member of the Council of Administration, Mr Liu Liangan, Project Consultant, Mr Chu Iek Man, Senior Manager of the Department of Science and Technology, and Ms Cheong Ngai Hong, Senior Administrative Officer.
