MPI Open Day Attracts Enthusiastic Responses

Macao Polytechnic Institute held its “MPI Open Day 2016” activities at its Gomes Street headquarters on 27th, February. The Opening Ceremony was attended by Ms. Cen Jiayi, Assistant, Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao SAR, Deputy Director Teng Sio Hong, Tertiary Education Services Office, MPI President Professor Lei Heong Iok, Lio U Sam, President of MPI Student Union, Wong U Kei, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association, principals and representatives of more than ten Macao secondary schools, as well as alumnus Choi Chi Iong (Siufay), a Macau-and Hong Kong-based musician. A large number of prospective secondary-school graduates and their parents were present and responded enthusiastically.

President Lei remarked in his Open Day speech that this year marked an important year in the history of the development of MPI. With the official launch of MPI’s Taipa Campus the history of using rented premises to provide educational facilities, which spanned a period of 25 years from the day of MPI’s establishment, had finally ended. MPI’s significantly improved conditions for offering its educational provision fully reflected the support and emphasis that the Macao SAR Government has constantly given to higher education. He promised that MPI would plan well and make good use of the facilities on campus, optimising the present spaces for teaching and research in order to provide a better learning environment for its new students.

He also emphasised that MPI would continue to practise the philosophy of “taking root in Macao with the support of the motherland, facing the world to create excellence”, and hold on to the principle of training cornerstone talents for society. MPI will also maintain the strategy of being “small and beautiful”, placing equal emphasis on teaching and research and broadening the scope of exchanges and cooperation with academic institutions in China and beyond. MPI will move on from its achievement with respect to its successful institutional review by the internationally authoritative QAA (UK), and keep up to date with trends in international academic development, perfecting and raising the quality of its teaching and learning, and accelerating academic review processes for each of its programmes.

With The MPI Journal achieving the title of ‘Excellent Journal in China’, MPI will endeavour to build a stable high-profile academic team, place emphasis on student-centredness, and provide better a learning environment for its enrolled and prospective students, laying the foundations for building a first-class university as well as first-class disciplines. President Lei welcomed everyone to visit the MPI campus in person so as to gain a better understanding of its educational philosophy, programme design and facilities, and strongly encouraged interested young students to join the ‘MPI family’.

MPI's Open Day activities focused on the theme of “A journey to Excellence” using presentations, demonstrations and performances to give a comprehensive introduction to the facilities, programmes, teaching and research and application procedures of MPI to this year's secondary-school graduates and other interested young applicants. The activities also included a Campus Tour, Teaching and Research Outcome Exhibition, Fitness Test, Sports Performances and Participation, Arts Workshop, Nursing Operation, Demonstration of an Experiment, Talent Acts and other events. Participants visited the library, tested various teaching aids, and participated in games to win prizes.
