MPI Holds Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition

The “2016 Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition” will be jointly organized by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and the Macao Computer Society on July 4-5, 2016 at MPI. The competition has four major aims: first, to promote the field of information technology in Macao education and thereby to become more application-oriented, market-oriented and society-oriented; second, to help cultivate the best IT talents for the Pearl River Delta Region (PDR)'s communities and economies; third, to provide students and teachers in Macao a cooperation and exchange platform for“exchanges, friendships, mutual learning, and improvements”; and fourth, to further enhance cooperation in the field of higher education and information technology between Macao and the PDR, leading to cooperative interaction for joint development while also expanding the space for regional development.

The "Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition" is in its 11th year of competition. The 10th competition was successfully held in MPI when the team from MPI won the gold award. Therefore, MPI and the Macao Computer Society decided to jointly organize the 11th competition. This competition is an established competition for IT and is uniquely important to both industry and academia. Participants come from 13 cities and regions within the PDR, including Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The competition helps college students from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao to exchange ideas and develop their professional competence. Every year the competition attracts tens of thousands of student participants from more than two hundred colleges and universities to participate in the district trials. As there will be more than 50 teams taking part in the grand final, the competition is expected to be very keen. The organisers believe that the display of high quality IT projects will inspire college students to develop innovative thinking, which can play a positive role in cultivating IT talents and promoting innovation and continuous development in the field of information technology in Macao.

The co-organizers of the competition are the Computer Societies of Guangdong Province, Hainan Province, Yunnan Province, Fujian Province, Sichuan Province, Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Guangxi Province, Guizhou Province, Chongqing, the Internet Professional Association and the Taiwan Association for Web Intelligence Consortium. The Opening Ceremony will be held in the Sports Pavilion of Macao Polytechnic Institute on July 4 at 9:30am, after which presentations of IT projects by contestants will be open to public viewing. The grand final for project defense and the awarding ceremony is set to be held in the Auditorium of Macao Polytechnic Institute on July 5 between 8:30am to 1:00pm and 3:30pm to 5pm respectively.
