Start Your Dream Voyage with MPI -- MPI Open Day Received an Overwhelming Success

   

The Macao Polytechnic Institute successfully held its "MPI 2017 Open Day" in the afternoon of January 7 on its main campus at the Luis Gonzaga Gomes Street. The event was officiated by the representative of Cultural and Education Department of the Liaison Office Li YongXian, the acting director of the Tertiary Education Service Office Chang Kun Hong, MPI President Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI Student Union Fong Chac Weng, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association Wong U Kei as well as a dozen secondary school principals and their representatives. The event attracted enthusiastic responses from prospective high school graduates and their parents to take part in its activities.

In his opening speech, MPI president Professor Lei Heong Iok, remarked that since the founding of MPI, concerted efforts are being mobilized from the faculty and staff together with gracious support from many other sectors, enabling MPI to commit to its long-held student-centered and quality-oriented management philosophy. Recent years have witnessed MPI’s successful review by international academic accreditation bodies of its academic standards, quality of student learning, education information management and its continuous improvement of the quality of teaching; Meanwhile, through rigorous reviews for many of its academic programs, MPI is able to create and provide more quality-assured courses to its currently enrolled students as well as prospective students aspiring to enroll in MPI in the future. The president reiterated that MPI would spare no efforts to implement the SAR government's educational policy of 'refining laws and regulations, and optimizing the education environment, accelerating training of talents." It is reported that MPI will continue to recruit local students as in the previous years, but will also focus on recruiting international exchange students, so that these students from different cultural backgrounds can live harmoniously with local students and to learn from each other, and to pursue their dreams in the big family of MPI. These initiatives are testimony to MPI's multi-cultural blend policy, and will definitely bring in a new chapter in its internationalization advancement of education.

In terms of administration, Professor Lei pointed out that in line with the Macao SAR Government's emphasis on education policy and increasing supports of resources to tertiary education institutes, in recent years, MPI has significantly improved its hardware facilities on campus and considerably optimized its administrative management. For example, more than 20,000 square meters of new teaching and student living areas have been put into use on its new Taipa campus, which serves to further expand the learning environment and conditions of the Institute. The modernization of teaching facilities, the construction of a secure, harmonious and green campus provides strong logistics backup essential for quality teaching. These moves underscore MPI's endeavors to benchmark its teaching quality against the most rigorous international standards. Similarly high standards have also been set for its logistics management, all contributing to the ultimate goal of achieving the unique MPI style of "Small but Beautiful" in teaching and learning.

MPI has organized this annual "Open Day" event to invite these aspiring young people to visit the campus and to gain a better understanding of its management philosophy, its curriculums and relevant facilities, as well as its admission procedures. Following the simple but grand opening ceremony, MPI also launched a wide range of activities for visitors to participate. These included campus guided tour, exhibition of teaching and research achievements, physical fitness trial tests, sports performance and participation, art workshops, nursing operations, demonstration of lab experiments, talent shows and many other events.

The academic programs currently offered by MPI for the 2017-2018 academic year include: Chinese-Portuguese/Portuguese-Chinese Translation and Interpretation, Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation, International Chinese Language Education, Portuguese Education, Computing, Social Work, Public Administration, Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations, Design, Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education, E-Commerce, Marketing, Accounting, Management, Gaming and Recreation Management, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy Technology, Speech and Language Therapy.
