Mr. Zheng Xiaosong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (CPG) in the Macao SAR visited the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and was warmly received by Professor Lei Heong Iok, President of MPI on the afternoon of 6 July. Mr. Zheng visited the teaching and research facilities, and learned about the teaching and research development of institute. Later, a cordial discussion and interaction with the heads of corresponding units was held in a relaxing atmosphere.

In the meeting, Professor Lei firstly introduced the orientation, purpose, characteristics of teaching and research, and challenges faced by the Macao Polytechnic Institute. The heads of related units reported to Mr. Zheng the following contents: 1. The promotion of national education in MPI; 2. The situation of “one country, two systems” research conducted by MPI; 3. MPI’s assistance in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in language teaching and Chinese-Portuguese machine translation and other fields; 4. Achievements and challenges faced by MPI in the field of gaming teaching and research; 5. Expressions of hope towards CPG on providing more specific support to the teaching and research work of MPI.

After listening to the introduction and interacting with Professor Lei and the heads of related units, Mr. Zheng expressed that although MPI is of a small size, the characteristics of “small but exquisite, small but specialised” are distinct, and a large number of talents with patriotism and love for Macao have been cultivated to make a positive contribution to Macao’s economic and social development and the successful implementation of "one country, two systems". Mr. Zheng encouraged  MPI to seriously understand President Xi Jingping’s spirit in important instructions towards Macao tertiary education, continue to adhere to the correct direction of running the institute, strengthen the patriotic education of young students, and cultivate more talents with ability and political integrity as well as patriotism and love for Macao; also, engage in in-depth study of the theory and practice of "one country, two systems", earnestly summarise the successful practical experience  of Macao's "one country, two systems", study and solve the difficulties and problems encountered in the process of advancement, and greet the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to  China with outstanding research results. MPI should further highlight the characteristics of running institute, and develop its advantages in Portuguese and gambling research, thus actively serving Macao's economic and social development. The Institute should continue to strength the exchanges and cooperation with the Mainland, especially in close cooperation and collaborative innovation with the cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to contribute and build the “global technology and innovation hub" for the Greater Bay Area.

Accompanying Mr. Zheng, the visitors to MPI included Mrs. Xu Ting, Director of the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the CPG in Macao, and other delegates.

The attendees of the meeting included Professor Im Sio Kei, Vice-President of MPI; Mr. Chang Tou Keong Michel, Representative of the Macao SAR Government Financial Services Bureau in MPI’s Board of Management; Dr. Cheang Mio Han, Secretary-General; and Directors of schools and Centres of MPI as well as foreign scholars.
