“The MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Activities 2018” hosted by the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre, Macao Polytechnic Institute opened at MPI at 9:30 am on 9th July (Monday). The activity aims to enable secondary school students to utilize their creative talents and hopes to enhance their appreciation of Macao's cultural and creative industry and their artistic abilities. The summer camp activities are popular among the high school students of Macao. Participants said that they have benefited a lot from the activities and they hope to contribute to the Macao cultural and creative industry in the future.

The opening ceremony of the summer camp was attended by Professor Im Sio Kei, Vice President of MPI; Ms Chu Miu Lai, the Representative of the President of the Administrative Committee of the Cultural Industries Fund of the Macao S.A.R. Government; Mr Wan Iat Wai, Vice President of Associação de Mútuo Auxílio de Moradores de Seis Vias Públicas, abrangendo a Rua dos Faitiões de Macau; Professor Hsu Hsiu-Chu, Director of the Cultural and Creative Industries Teaching and Research Centre of MPI, and others. Ms Chu Miu Lai, Mr Wan Iat Wai, and Dr Kuo-Hua Yu of MPI gave talks in “Culture + Creativity + Community”, “Today and the Past of Macao Cultural and Creative Industry in the Old District” and “Art, Creativity and Community Culture” respectively, and participants visited the campus of MPI afterwards.

The three-day summer camp covers visits, workshops and markets. Students visited handwritten signboard shop, A Porta Da Arte, an incense shop, sauce shop, coconut shop, jade shop, Tai Long Fong Teahouse, grocery store and other speciality stores located at Beco dos Faitiões and Rua dos Ervanários in the old district. They also participated in workshops with different themes and created the cultural and creative products related to the old district. The products were exhibited and for sale at the Art Street Creative Fair held on the 1st Floor of Meng Tak Building of MPI at 12:00 noon on 11^th July.

Since 2016, Macao Polytechnic Institute has held the “The MPI Mid-Summer Arts Camp Activities”, which are popular among Macao students. This year, the event has led Macao students to explore the history of Macao, observe and study the old districts, explore and think about the revitalisation plan of the old community, and hold diverse art and design workshops. It has also continued to put the cultural and human values into the cultural and creative platform of Macao. This year’s event attracted more than 60 students to participate from a total of 26 Macao secondary schools including Hou Kong Middle School, Macau Baptist College, Kwong Tai Middle School, Our Lady of Fatima Girls' School, Chan Sui Ki Perpetual Help College, Pui Ching Middle School, Pooi To Middle School, Colégio Mateus Ricci, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima English Secondary, Colégio de Santa Rosa de Lima (Chinese Section), Colégio Diocesano de São José 5, Escola Seong Fan, Sacred Heart Canossian College English Section, Escola Secundária Luso-Chinesa de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, Macau Square Public School, Pui Va Middle School, Fong Chong School of Taipa, Keang Peng School (Secondary Section), Xin Hua School (Secondary Section), Macau Kung Luen Vocational & Technical Middle School, The Affiliated School of the University of Macau, Sheng Kung Hui Choikou School (Macau), Tong Nam School (Secondary Section), Millennium Secondary School, Kao Yip Middle School and Escola Católica Estrela do Mar.
