Chief Executive Ho Iat-Seng meets with MPI Council Members

The Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Ho Iat-Seng met today (June 19) with Professor Lei Heong Iok (President of the Council of the Macao Polytechnic Institute) and other Council members, at the Macao Government Headquarters. The two sides exchanged views on the future development of MPI and discussed issues regarding nurturing talents.

Ho Iat-Seng indicated that with the establishment of the Council of MPI, its leadership role can be expected to step up to a higher level of management. The Chief Executive also applauded MPI's Chinese-Portuguese machine translation, expecting its continued development towards broadening the lexicon and improving the accuracy rate, and meanwhile, cultivating more high-caliber interpreters of Portuguese.

Ho Iat-Seng further noted that the SAR government is currently committed to its vision of "building a smart city and smart government administration", which requires more talents in science and technology. As such, he expected MPI to contribute to the nurturing of these talents for the Macao community in the future.

For his part, Professor Lei Heong Iok said that the establishment of the MPI Council represents a significant step taken by MPI in its resolution to develop higher education under the leadership of the Chief Executive, while also promoting love for the Motherland and Macao as well as other core values. Professor Im Sio Kei, President of MPI and a member of the Council, reported on MPI's work progress in teaching activities and other major projects.

Also present at the meeting were Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR; Lok Po, Vice President of the MPI Council; as well as other Council members including Mak Soi Kun, Leong Su Sam, Lam Un Mui, and Paula Hsião Yun Ling.
