Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive of Macao SAR, officiated at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the new library and office building at the Headquarters of MPI

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) held a groundbreaking ceremony of the new library and office building at its headquarters on 15th September 2020. The Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Ho Iat Seng, officiated at the ceremony. The construction of the building is committed to cultivating more outstanding talents, producing more scientific and technological achievements, contributing to social and economic development.

The groundbreaking ceremony of the new library and office building at the headquarters of MPI was held on 15th September 2020. Ho Iat Seng, the Chief Executive; Zhang Rongshun, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR; Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Chui Sai Cheong, Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly of Macao; Chan Pou Ha, Director of Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau; Chang Kun Hong, Acting Director of Higher Education Bureau; Lei Heong Iok, President of the MPI Council; Lok Po, Vice-President of the MPI Council; Im Sio Kei, President of MPI; Ng Ka Kei, President of MPI Student Union; Wong U Kei, President of MPI Alumni Association; Tang Weng Un, Managing Director of Tong Lei Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd.; Tang Hon Cheong, Managing Director of Top Builders Group, jointly officiated at the ceremony. Nearly 100 guests, including members of the MPI Council, members of the community, teachers, students, staffs, and alumni, were present to witness the new milestone of the development of MPI.

Im Sio Kei, introduced the planning of the new library and office building at the headquarters of MPI. He said that Macao is in a new era of development and actively integrating into the overall national development, as well as participating in the construction of “One Belt, One Road” and the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. MPI has been contributing to the development of the construction of the Sino-Portuguese platform, the world tourism and leisure centre, as well as the international technology innovation centre in the Greater Bay Area. The construction of the new building reflects the importance and support of the Macao SAR government to higher education. The new building will expand the development space of MPI and further optimize the facilities for teaching and research. It will be of great help for MPI to pursue excellence in teaching and scientific research and to promote the integration of production, education and research, so that the Institute can cultivate more outstanding talents for the Country and Macao, produce more scientific and technological achievements, and contribute to social and economic development.

The new 15-floor building with a basement car park of the Institute is designed in accordance with international standards of teaching and research buildings. The building is equipped with postgraduate teaching and research facilities, library, multi-functional lecture hall, language classroom, teaching, research and administrative office facilities. The building covers three major functions: talent cultivation, technological innovation and social service. The new building is expected to be completed and put into use in 2024, which will further enhance the educational environment of MPI.
