MPI Students Learn Much from Homecoming Alumni on Preparing for Overseas Postgraduate Study

Ms. Kuong Ka Man, an MPI graduate, talks about her life and study in the United Kingdom at the experience sharing session

The Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organised an experience sharing session, catering for the needs of those students who would like to continue their tertiary education and pursue a more advanced degree outside their homeland. The experience sharing session was aimed to prepare the MPI undergraduates of senior years for the opportunities and challenges they would encounter when studying abroad, as well as to equip them with the knowledge and information necessary for planning their careers in advance. Three distinguished MPI alumni of recent years returned to their alma mater either physically or virtually and shared their personal experiences of how they had prepared for their postgraduate study in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.

The alumni who spoke at the sharing session, namely Ms. Kuong Ka Man, Ms. Li Zhiao and Ms. Gao Ziyu, captured the undivided attention of their audience. Useful information and practical tips about preparing for the postgraduate programme applications and adapting to the new environment of study were given during the sharing session. Summing up their experiences, the alumni helpfully suggested that their junior counterparts should avail themselves of the overseas exchange opportunities provided by MPI and take part in the life-enriching extracurricular activities organised by the Student Affairs Office. They explained that what they did outside the classroom was equally important as their academic qualifications and results, and it played a vital role in securing them admission to the universities of their choice by making their applications more outstanding and leaving a more lasting impression on the admission officers. Both Ms. Xie and Ms. Leong, who major in accounting and design respectively, attended the experience sharing session and deeply appreciated the generosity of the homecoming alumni who had shed much light on how to prepare for the postgraduate applications and overseas study.

MPI is committed to supporting the all-round development of its students and assisting them in fulfilling their potential to the fullest extent. To this end, the Student Affairs Office has been organising a wide range of extracurricular activities enhancing their overall competitiveness, broadening their international horizon and facilitating their career planning, thereby helping them become high-achievers who can contribute to the sustainable development of the country, including Macao and the Greater Bay Area.
