In order to promote and pass on the excellence of traditional Chinese culture, the Student Affairs Office of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) organized a series of celebration activities during the Spring Festival, which provided international students with opportunities to experience the festive atmosphere and learn about the traditional customs of the Chinese New Year. Students gathered together to celebrate the Chinese New Year in Macao by hanging up lanterns, writing Chinese New Year couplets, making dumplings and a reunion dinner, as well as appreciating Chinese New Year flowers.

During the Chinese New Year, there was a strong festive atmosphere of the Spring Festival with flower blossoms around the MPI campus. Ms Laidinha, a Cape Verde student of the International Chinese Language Education, expressed that MPI integrated the Chinese and Western cultures. By putting up the festive decorations, learning to make dumplings and writing the spring festival couplets with her classmates, she learned about traditional Chinese culture. Mr Rivaldo, a student of the same programme, learned to write couplets attentively. He also sent his heartfelt wishes to his schoolmates in Putonghua, wishing that students from the Lusophone countries would learn more about Chinese history and culture through these various Spring Festival celebration activities. Mr Silvino, a student from Sao Tome and Principe was interested in the Chinese Zodiac. Through the mobile emoji stickers launched by MPI, he learned that 2021 is the Year of the Ox. During the activity, Silvino was told that his overall fortune this year would be good. Silvino said he would study hard to graduate with outstanding academic performance.

During the Spring Festival, the Student Affairs Office organised a series of activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year with the theme of promoting traditional Chinese culture, like “Spreading Spring Festival Blessings”, “Hike and Succeed”, “Celebrating Renri” (the day of creation of human beings), “CNY Challenge”, “Celebrating CNY with MPI”, etc. All these are done to let the international students gather together and celebrate the Spring Festival, so as to promote and manifest the glorious traditional Chinese culture and Chinese civilisation.
