Since its establishment in 2019, the “Greater Bay Area Portuguese Language Education Alliance” has been dedicated to promoting the coordinated development of Portuguese language education and strengthening exchanges and cooperation with universities in the Greater Bay Area. In this context, the Center for Portuguese Studies of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) continues its tradition of dedicating itself to the training of Portuguese language teachers. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of MPI, the “Online Summer Workshop for the Training of Portuguese Language Teachers in the Greater Bay Area: Digital pedagogical resources”, will be held from July 1st to 7th, 2021. All Portuguese language teachers who work at universities in China are welcome to join this free workshop, with priority given to Portuguese language teachers from the universities in the Greater Bay Area.

The Center for Portuguese Studies (CPCLP) has always been committed to the training of Portuguese language teachers. For the past several years, the Center has organized various training sessions both in Macao and Mainland China, to further enhance the Portuguese language teaching standards in both places, as well as in other Asia-Pacific regions. To date, the CPCLP has successfully carried out more than 30 training sessions for Portuguese language teachers from higher education institutions, which had around 500 participants, and corresponded to the training time totaling more than 600 hours. These trainings have won unanimous praise from Portuguese teachers from higher education institutions and from the Camões Institute (Portugal).

As a new type of digital media, “Podcast” makes it possible to publish a series of multimedia files via the Internet, which can be received and enjoyed by its users through personal electronic devices. In recent years, the creation and dissemination of “Podcast” has been developing rapidly throughout the world, especially in Portuguese-speaking countries. In addition to being an information and entertainment platform, the “Podcast” can also be transformed as a powerful teaching tool, as it has a very low learning threshold and is very easy to use. It plays an important role in increasing the learning autonomy and motivation of students in learning of languages. 

To this end, the Workshop for Portuguese language teachers this summer will focus on the application of the digital new media “Podcast” in Portuguese class. The workshop consists of three sessions with rich content. The first session of this Workshop will demonstrate the advantages of using “Podcast” as a pedagogical resource in the foreign language class; the second session will not only present the common writing style for “Podcasts”, but also show its relationship to Portuguese literature in order to demonstrate the application of “Podcast” in teaching Portuguese literature; the third session will explain the practical skills of “Podcast” production and introduce commonly used software to facilitate the teaching practice of the majority of Portuguese language teachers in the future.

Registration for the “Online Summer Workshop for the Training of Portuguese Language Teachers in the Greater Bay Area: Digital pedagogical resources” is open now until June 20th, 2021. A limited quota is available on a first-come first-served basis. Portuguese language teachers from Chinese universities who are interested in the topic of this Workshop are welcome to register online by scanning the QR code.
