Macao Orchestra held its first university concert “Rhythm of Tango” at MPI

The Macao Orchestra recently held its first university concert of the season "Rhythm of Tango" at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), bringing a wonderful musical feast to teachers and students alike this autumn. Under the leadership of the orchestra conductor, Jian Baijian, the Macao Orchestra vividly presented world classics such as “Quatro, para Tango”, “Por uma Cabeça”, “Adiós Nonino”, “Underground Tango”, “Danzas Latinoamericanas”, etc. In addition, the conductor also guided the audience into the world of classical music to gain artistic nourishment by giving an appreciation of the beautiful pieces. The concert attracted more than 150 teachers and students to attend with enthusiastic responses.

Mr Leung, a Music programme student, said that he was very happy to be able to enjoy such an unparalleled tango feast on the spot. The exciting performance of the musicians made him deeply feel the charm of music. Music is not only a beautiful note but also an aesthetic of life. Another student of the Music programme, Mr Feng, said that the conductor’s explanations were humorous and full of philosophies of thought, which allowed him to understand the function, concept, history and value of tango music. As time changes, the art of tango is constantly spreading, developing and renewing. This concert was an unforgettable learning experience.

MPI is committed to cultivating artistic and cultural talents and promoting the development of local art creativity. Over the years, it has always supported Macao Orchestra’s musical performances. MPI continuously organises various multicultural activities to provide artistic experiences for students and creates a strong artistic atmosphere in the campus, so as to cultivate outstanding and comprehensive talents who are sophisticated and rich in cultural qualities.
