In order to enhance the competitiveness of higher education students and young people, as well as develop their career planning, the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Sands China and the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association jointly launched the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme”, whose objectives are to stimulate higher education students’ creative thinking, enhance their practical skills, promote talent development and lay a solid foundation for their future career planning. The opening ceremony took place on 12 November at the Adelson Advanced Education Centre, Venetian Macao. The President of Macao Polytechnic Institute, Im Sio Kei, the President of Sands China Ltd, Wilfred Wong, and the President of the Board of the Macao Polytechnic Institute Alumni Association, Wong U Kei, among others, were present at the event and presided over the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Wilfred Wong said that as the largest integrated resort operator in Macao, Sands China was very pleased to be able to leverage its own resources through this programme, providing students and young alumni of Macao Polytechnic Institute with a wide range of practical opportunities to further sharpen their skills and carry out their creative visions. Wilfred Wong also thanked MPI and the MPI Alumni Association for their cooperation with Sands China, hoping that through this programme, they could jointly train professional talents and thus continue to contribute to the development of local talents and the construction of Macao as a World Tourism and Leisure Centre.

Im Sio Kei said that with the support of the Macao SAR Government and various sectors of society, MPI had been striving to serve the Macao society by offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as professional training appropriate to the needs of socio-economic development, actively promoting scientific research, and developing high-level professionals. The “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme” aimed to provide valuable extra-curricular practice opportunities for MPI arts students with artistic expertise or professional competence. This would enable students to put into practice what they have learnt and to develop their talents to the fullest, thereby reinforcing the link and co-operation between the Institute and the enterprises, giving full play to the role of alumni in guiding and nurturing arts, cultural and creative professionals, to contribute to the development of the country and of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Wong U Kei pointed out that the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme” was made possible by the support of the Macao Polytechnic Institute and the opportunity given by Sands China Limited to provide a platform for the students to realise their talents and put their dreams into practice. He hoped that through this platform, the social experience and practical knowledge gained by the alumni, as well as the theoretical knowledge and professional skills learnt by students in classrooms, could be fully utilised and showcased, so that more students could interact with young alumni, gain more learning experiences, plan their career prospects, showcase their talents and realise their dreams.

The participating students from the Design Programme said that the “Art Talent Development Showcase Programme” was a good platform for students who wanted to work in the creative industries to apply what they had learnt in the classrooms, accumulate experience and enhance their vocational skills in local large enterprises.
