Journal of Macao Polytechnic University ranks among the nation’s top journals for nine consecutive years
“The Selected Materials Reprinting Index Ranking Report by Renmin University of China 2021” releasedIn 2022, the Renmin University of China (RUC) Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Achievements Evaluation released the “The Selected Materials Reprinting Index Ranking 2021 by Renmin University of China” and the “Important Source Institutions for the Selected Materials (version – 2021)”. According to the two achievements, the Journal of Macao Polytechnic University (JMPU) has been ranked for nine consecutive years among the nation’s top journals in humanities and social sciences run by higher education institutions, achieving the 8th in reprint rate, 11th in composite index, and 13th in reprint count. At present, there are about 1,150 academic journals run by Chinese universities, 338 of which have articles reprinted in full text in 2021, accounting for 29.4% of the total.
The academic evaluation of Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals adheres to the concept of “compound evaluation”, which is “directed by academic achievements, led by peer review, guided by value judgment, and supported by data analysis”. The results are published annually in March and have been published for 22 years. In addition to the online forum, the evaluation results are also released in traditional paper media, official websites, WeChat public accounts, and many other channels. The print media such as Guangming Daily, China News Publishing and Broadcasting, and Chinese Social Sciences Today, dozens of well-known websites such as Guangming.com, China Education News Web, Chinese Social Sciences Net, and SINOSS, and hundreds of media apps such as Xuexi Qiangguo, China Education News, and 1Xuezhe followed up and reported the event. So far, the series of academic evaluation results of Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals have developed into a complete evaluation system covering the five categories: journals, research institutions, scholars, disciplines, and articles. The reprint count, reprint rate, and composite index have been regarded by the academia and journal publishing community as important reference criteria for academic evaluation and research performance assessment in philosophy and social sciences. The quality-oriented RUC evaluation system provides a valuable new perspective for the evaluation of humanities and social science achievements in our country. A total of 184 first-level institutions and 315 university-affiliated institutions were included in the “Important Institutional Sources for Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals (2021)” to select more competitive academic institutions in the field of humanities and social sciences in China.
JMPU, founded in April 1998, is a comprehensive academic publication of MPU in humanities and social sciences. Since its revision in 2011, JMPU has drawn on the strengths of various schools and has continuously improved its academic quality, gaining wide recognition in the academia. In 2014, it won the National Excellent Social Science Journals of Universities award, and was known as a “dark horse” and for the “JMPU Phenomenon” among university journals. In 2018, the six-volume JMPU Column Selections were published and recognized as one of the most popular 10 academic journals in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. In 2019, it won the National Famous Journal of Social Sciences published by universities, and the “Hong Kong and Macao Studies” column was rated as a “featured column”.
In recent years, the academic influence of JMPU has been significantly improved. The reprint rate of the Journal ranked, among all university journals in China, the 13th in 2013, 6th in 2014 and 2015, 4th in 2016, 7th in 2017, 2nd in 2018, 3rd in 2019, 14th in 2020, and 8th in 2021. In the 2021 ranking of full-text reprint rate by subjects, journalism and communication and Chinese history both ranked the 15th and the subjects of history and philosophy ranked both the 20th in the country. In addition, JMPU has been selected for three times (2014, 2017, 2020) in the list of important source journals sponsored by higher education institutions.
In addition to the index in the RUC “Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals”, many other articles published in JMPU in recent years have been quoted or reprinted by Xinhua Digest, Chinese Social Science Digest, and China University Academic Abstracts.
