MPU Hosts Seminar on Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing

Macao Polytechnic University hosts a seminar on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing
Seminar was provided by delegates of the Financial Intelligence Office, Macao SAR

In order to enhance students’ legal awareness on anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing, and further their understanding of relevant laws and regulations, the Macao Polytechnic University hosted a seminar on “Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing” and invited delegates from the Financial Intelligence Office, Macao SAR, as speakers. Approximately a hundred students from accounting and finance related majors participated enthusiastically during the seminar.

Deputy Director of the Financial Intelligence Office, Fong Iun Kei, Functional Chief of the Financial Intelligence Office, Fong Iek Lou, Vice-Rector of Macao Polytechnic University, Dr Lei Ngan Lin, Vivian, Dean of Faculty of Business, Dr. Huang Guihai, Samuel and Head of the Student Affairs Office, Lao Weng Ian, also attended the event. The seminar was given by Senior Officer of the Financial Intelligence Office, Tang Oi I, which provided analysis of the threads on money laundering and terrorist financing through international financial systems and the international political and economic order. By sharing recent cases and playing crime prevention publicity videos, students could understand the risks and consequences of money laundering, deepen their awareness on the modus operandi of criminals to raise their vigilance against money laundering crimes. Meanwhile, the Financial Intelligence Office also introduced their function and responsibilities and career planning in related fields for MPU students.

A student, who participated in the seminar, stated that behavior such as money laundering and terrorism financing are closely related to daily life and he suggested that reminders should be raised among his peers which would help to avoid traps set-up by criminals. The organiser, the Student Affairs Office of MPU anticipates they will organise diverse seminars and activities to nurture young talents for different fields, consolidate students’ awareness of being law-abiding and encourage them to contribute to social development.
