During the “2023 Overseas Chinese Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference (OCBC)" in Jiangmen, Macao Polytechnic University’s Student Affairs Office organised the “Creating the Future – Greater Bay Area Business and Cultural Visits” in Jiangmen. Led by U Ion Leong, President of the Macao Polytechnic University Students’ Union; Wong U Kei, President of the Macao Polytechnic University Alumni Association; and Lao Weng Ian, Head of the Student Affairs Office, a group of 30 students and alumni visited Jiangmen on May 17 and 18 to promote Macao youth’s understanding of urban development and potential in the Greater Bay Area, aiding their integration into the regional development.

The visiting group was warmly received by Guan Jingping, member of the standing committee of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and member of the Jiangmen Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. The group of 30 from Macao Polytechnic University felt the national sentiment and hometown affection in Jiangmen, thereby promoting national education. The group engaged in discussions with Wei Haifan, Deputy Secretary of the Jiangmen Xinhui District Communist Youth League of China; He Yun, Deputy Director of the Jiangmen Xinhui Human Resources and Social Security Bureau; and Liang Jiajian, Deputy Director of the Jiangmen Talent Bureau’s Technology Service Centre, discussing topics such as Jiangmen’s development, talent recruitment, internships and employment in a friendly exchange.

In line with the SAR Government’s “1+4” diversified development strategy, the corporate visits included technology, cultural creativity, food, sports, biotechnology and other enterprises, such as the China CRRC Guangdong Rail Transit Industry Park, Sinbote Bio-technology Limited, Lee Kum Kee Food Limited, Jingu Zhou Sports and Cultural Park, Huahui Huang Technology Industry Park, and Yin Zhou Bay Technology Innovation Industrial Park. Through face-to-face interactions with senior executives of these companies, the visiting group gained a deeper understanding of the Greater Bay Area’s industrial layout and technological development direction. Additionally, to further understand Jiangmen’s history and culture, the group also visited, among others, the Overseas Chinese Museum, Liang Qichao Memorial Hall, and Yuhu Xiaoyuan Cultural Tourism Exhibition Hall.

Macao Polytechnic University actively aligns with the national and Macao’s development strategies, encouraging youth integration into the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone development. The Student Affairs Office organises exchange activities into the Greater Bay Area, enabling young individuals to engage directly with senior executives and talent recruitment departments of companies in the regional cities. This immersive experience allows them to better understand the talent needs in the region, plan their careers effectively, and establish a solid foundation for their integration into the Greater Bay Area development.
