The 29th Macao Polytechnic University Students’ Union inauguration to promote patriotism and love for Macao

The inauguration ceremony of the 29th Macao Polytechnic University Students’ Union and its sub-organisations was held at the university’s auditorium on 8th November 2023. Witnessed by representatives from various community associations and student unions from different universities, the members took the oath. Professor Im Sio Kei, Rector of Macao Polytechnic University, encouraged the Students’ Union to carry forward the spirit of patriotism and love for Macao, passing it down, seizing the new opportunities in the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone, bravely embracing the pioneering spirit of the new era, and actively integrating into the national development.

The ceremony was attended by Professor Im Sio Kei, Rector of Macao Polytechnic University; Li Yongle, representative from the Education and Youth Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Lei Im Kei, Acting Head of the Student Services Department of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Leong Ka Fai, Director of the Professional Development and Planning Department of the Social Work Bureau; and senior personnel of over twenty organisations and other distinguished guests. They witnessed the inauguration of the new term of the Students’ Union and its sub-organisations at Macao Polytechnic University in a festive atmosphere.

During the inauguration ceremony, Professor Im Sio Kei congratulated the new members of the Students’ Union on their successful inauguration. With the support of the national and SAR governments, Macao Polytechnic University continues to strengthen talent development and scientific research, continuously improving its academic standards and international influence. Recently, at the 1st Student (Youth) Games of the People’s Republic of China held in Guangxi, Macao Polytechnic University student, Wong Weng Ian, secured the first gold medal for Macao in the campus group. A total of one gold, one silver and one bronze medal were won by the MPU students, Wong Weng Ian and Sou Cho Man, bringing honour to the university and Macao. Macao Polytechnic University will continue to support the development of the Students’ Union, working together to realise new goals.

He Ziqing, President of the Macao Polytechnic University Students’ Union, expressed gratitude for Macao Polytechnic University’s trust and support to the Students’ Union. The new term of the Students’ Union will lead the entire student body, fostering a harmonious and innovative campus environment, actively organising a diverse range of academic, cultural and exchange activities, and maintaining the role as a communication bridge between Macao Polytechnic University, various sectors of society and the wider community. The Students’ Union will do its utmost as responsible student leaders in Macao, uniting to contribute to the prosperity and stability of the nation and Macao.

Guests attending the inauguration ceremony included Lei Ngan Lin, Vice-Rector of the University; Lei Vai Fong, Secretary-General of the University; Ieong Mou Wan, Functional Head of the Division of Civic Education of the Municipal Affairs Bureau; Wong U Kei, President of the Macao Polytechnic University Alumni Association; Ieong Wai Hin, President of the General Association of Chinese Students of Macao; Lou Kit Long, President of the Associação do Desporto Universitário de Macau; Cheng Ka Man, Director of the Youth Committee of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions; as well as heads of various academic departments and administrative units at Macao Polytechnic University.
