Macao Polytechnic University Hosts Anti-Telecommunication Fraud Crime Prevention Seminar During Orientation
MPU hosts a lecture on preventing telecommunication and internet fraud during orientation
To enhance anti-scam awareness on campus and increase university students’ vigilance against scams, MPU invited representatives from the Judiciary Police of Macao SAR to deliver a lecture on “Preventing Telecommunication and Internet Fraud” during the new academic year’s orientation day. This educational session engaged 2,700 freshmen.
During the lecture, representatives from the Judiciary Police introduced common telecommunication and internet fraud techniques, such as “Impersonating Government Departments or Judicial Authorities,” “Guess Who I Am,” internet romance scams, and fake job scams. They used real cases to explain how these scams work and why victims often fall for them, which helped deepen students’ understanding of these frauds. They also shared practical anti-scam tools and tips to help students improve their fraud prevention skills and protect their assets.
The Student Affairs Office of MPU announced that a series of activities will be held in the new academic year, including Crime Prevention Week, Campus Anti-Fraud Ambassadors, and Fraud Prevention Speech Contests. These diverse activities aim to actively support the Macao SAR “On-campus Anti-scam ‘Vaccination’ Programme,” enhancing students’ vigilance against fraud and strengthening the campus safety network through police-school collaboration.
