In September, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Student Affairs Office (SAO) of MPU held a “Mid-Autumn Blessing Event,” where students gathered together to celebrate the festival. Through traditional customs such as hanging lanterns, guessing lantern riddles, and tasting mooncakes, the event allowed everyone to experience the festive atmosphere of the full moon and promote Chinese traditional festival culture.

 

The campus was decorated with colorful lights, and under the vibrant lanterns hung numerous riddles and couplets related to the Mid-Autumn Festival. Students discussed the answers to the riddles, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter and joy. During the event, students tasted mooncakes, took photos with lanterns shaped like the moon rabbit, carp and star fruit, and exchanged their holiday greetings. There was also a lantern-making workshop where participants designed and made unique lanterns by themselves, inscribing their blessings for friends, teachers and family members on the lanterns.

The Macao Polytechnic University China Mainland Student Association noted that the Mid-Autumn Festival was the first traditional Chinese festival that students from various regions spent in Macao, which added a sense of nostalgia for their families. They expressed their gratitude to the university for organising the Mid-Autumn celebration, allowing peers to share the joy of the festival. SAO brought students together on this symbolic festival of reunion, conveying the philosophical values of family harmony and natural balance. Through diverse activities, the event aimed to showcase the long-standing festive history and traditional customs of the Chinese nation to university students, and to appreciate the cultural power and values embodied in the festival.
