MPU Holds Forum to Conclude the Successful Implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” Principle
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region. “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held the “‘One Country, Two Systems’ Forum 2024: Successful Practice and Future Prospects of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ Principle in Macao”, to conclude Macao’s successful experiences in practicing the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. The Forum attracted over 100 audiences, including experts, scholars, and students from the Mainland and Macao.
Wong Chi Hong, Director of the Labour Affairs Bureau, Chan Iok Wai, Department Head of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, and Lai U Hou, Prosecutor Coordinator of the Public Prosecutors Office attended the Forum. In his speech, Prof. Leng Tiexun, Director of the “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre of MPU, said there are many valuable experiences in successfully implementing the “One Country, Two Systems” principle in Macao. Serious conclusion and assessment of these successful experiences will contribute to strengthening the awareness and firmness of long-term adherence to the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. It will also safeguard the long-term prosperity and stability of Macao and uphold the steady and long-term practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle in Macao.
The Forum was chaired by Prof. Huang Jin, a renowned academic in the field of Private International Law and President of the Chinese Society of International Law, Prof. Zou Pingxue, Director of the Center for Basic Laws of HongKong and Macau Special Administrative Region of Shenzhen University, and Prof. Cao Xudong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Studies of Sun Yat-sen University. Lectures on Macao’s experiences in the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, as well as its influence in promoting the rule of law of China and the rule of law at the international level were delivered. Interactive and dynamic discussions were conducted during the forum.
