MPU FAD Students Excel at the “Annual Exhibition of Macao Visual Arts 2024”

MPU Visual Arts Student Wong Kin Tong’s Work “0” Won the Top Ten “Outstanding Artworks Award”

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao S.A.R. Government, the “Annual Exhibition of Macao Visual Arts 2024 – Western Media Category” was inaugurated at Tap Seac Gallery. This year’s exhibition aimed to encourage innovative and contemporary artistic creations that express the spirit of the times and to showcase the latest developments in Macao’s visual arts with a total of 45 works/sets. Among them, the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) had 14 students and alumni works awarded or selected, achieving remarkable results.

Works by Macao Polytechnic University students and alumni such as Wong Kin Tong’s “0,” Cheong Hang Fong’s “A Class in July,” Filipe Miguel das Dore’s “Detached from the Old Haunt,” and Leong Wai Lap’s “Floating City – Neon City” were among the top ten recipients of the “Outstanding Artworks Awards” at this year’s exhibition. Works by other MPU students and alumni, namely Lam Kai Weng, Wong Hio Chit, Lai Sut Weng, Sit Ka Kit, Ng Sang Kei, Ng Lai Seong, Leong Chi Ian, Chan On Kei, Lo Chong Hong, and Sou Leng Fong, were also selected for inclusion in the exhibition.

MPU Alumni Cheong Hang Fong’s Work “A Class in July" Won the Top Ten “Outstanding Artworks Award”

A total of 178 pieces/sets of artworks from 181 artistic practitioners were received in this year’s annual exhibition, covering a wide range of Western media, including sketching, watercolour, oil painting, print, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, mixed media, and installation art, etc., which were presented in two-dimensional, three-dimensional and multi-media formats, showcasing the artistic skills and unlimited creativity of the local artists in Macao.

The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts Programme at the Faculty of Arts and Design of MPU emphasises both theory and practice, cultivating students’ creation abilities and innovative capabilities in art theory. In response to the spirit of the times, the programme has developed several directions in teaching: visual arts creation, visual arts education, art curatorial management, and new media art, aiming for students to seize the opportunities in the development of the country and the Greater Bay Area while achieving their professional goals with artistic aspirations.
