MPU FAD Invites Macau Director to Share Multiple Aspects of Film Creation

In order to deepen students’ understanding of the film-making process and to broaden their creative horizons, the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) cordially invited Macao film director Hong Heng Fai to be a guest speaker at the seminar “The Interplay of Text and Image: Exploring the Multifaceted Aspects of Film Creation”. During the event, he shared insights into both the frontstage and backstage aspects of film production with faculty and students. The atmosphere was enthusiastic and engaging.

During the seminar, Hong shared his own experiences, detailing his artistic journey from being a theatre actor to studying advertising and later venturing into narrative film creation. Through a retrospective of his various stages of visual creations, MPU students had the opportunity not only to appreciate his remarkable works but also to delve into his creative process, understanding the many secrets behind the scenes and the practical breakthroughs within each piece. The students gained insight into the current state of Macao's film industry, as well as an understanding of the intricate weaving of thoughts across different stages of filmmaking, from scripting to storyboarding, shooting, editing, and beyond, revealing the complexity and fascination of film creation.

Director Hong achieved acclaim with his debut film “Kissing The Ground You Walked On,” which won the Best Director award in the Young Cinema Competition (Chinese Language) at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The film was also selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival in the Netherlands, the São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil, and received three nominations at the 59th Golden Horse Awards for Best New Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Effects.
