MPU FAD Hosts Orff Music Teaching Method Workshop

The Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held an Orff Music Teaching Method Workshop recently and invited Professor Huang Sha Mei, from the Music Education Department of Xinghai Conservatory of Music, as the guest speaker to introduce the core concepts and practical applications of the Orff Music Teaching Method to the students. The aim of the workshop was to increase creativity, musical expression and improvisation skills, further enhancing accumulation of professional knowledge in music education for the Bachelor of Arts in Music Programme students.

The students learnt through a series of hands-on activities such as singing, playing instruments, movement exercises, and rhythmic games, experiencing the Orff method which emphasises the integration of music, language and rhythm to help students could learn music in a natural and enjoyable atmosphere, as well as to develop a sense of rhythm, collaboration and the ability to improvise.

The students said that they had developed their understanding of the Orff teaching method with practical skills and strategies for integrating Orff techniques into their teaching practice, fostering creativity, musical expression and enthusiasm for music.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Programme of MPU FAD is committed to promoting the development of music education and creating more opportunities for students to express themselves, thereby fostering the growth of local music culture.
