MPU Launches “Love This Planet 2025 Beach Clean-Up” to Safeguard Marine Ecosystems
In a concerted effort to enhance environmental consciousness among university students and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) Student Affairs Office initiated the “Love This Planet 2025 Beach Clean-Up” campaign. The programme saw students actively engaging in coastal conservation by removing marine debris from local beaches, demonstrating practical commitment to preserving Macao’s pristine shoreline while deepening their understanding of sustainable development principles and the importance of ecological harmony.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from MPU’s Sustainability Society, Volunteer Programme, and students from across various academic disciplines. Participants systematically cleared plastic containers, abandoned fishing equipment and other tidal waste along the coastline. During the waste sorting process, students observed a predominance of non-biodegradable plastics among the diverse array of marine litter. Representatives from MPU’s Sustainability Society noted that the initiative significantly raised awareness about SDG implementation and the environmental consequences of plastic pollution, urging all attendees to become active “Stewards of the Planet” by incorporating sustainable practices into their daily routines.
As part of MPU’s ongoing commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the “Love This Planet 2025” campaign serves as both an educational platform and practical demonstration of environmental responsibility. The Student Affairs Office has emphasised that such initiatives foster ecological awareness while making tangible contributions towards building a sustainable future for Macao and the global community.
