To cultivate students’ understanding of the May Fourth spirit of “patriotism, progress, democracy, and science,” and to enhance their knowledge of “One Country, Two Systems,” the Constitution, the Basic Law, and the integration of rule of law in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) organised a May Fourth Youth Day series titled “Bay Area, Governed by Law.” Students visited the GBA Youth Constitution and Basic Law Education Centre to learn about the advancement and comprehensiveness of national laws and to understand that a sound legal foundation is the cornerstone of a good life for the people. As youth of the new era, they are expected to set a positive example and work together to safeguard social security and stability.

Located in Hengqin, the GBA Youth Constitution and Basic Law Education Centre is a joint initiative developed by the Legal Affairs Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and the Zhuhai Municipal Bureau of Justice. The centre features three professional exhibition halls and utilises interactive technologies such as augmented reality, gamified experiences, mock courtrooms, and themed video displays to offer students a relaxed and enjoyable learning process. Students who participated in the visit said that both the national and Macao SAR governments have placed strong emphasis on promoting legal education in recent years. They believe that understanding “One Country, Two Systems” and the core principles of the Constitution and Basic Law is an essential subject for young learners. Many said they are determined to apply their knowledge in real-life contexts, playing an active role in safeguarding national and societal security. One student mentioned being immediately impressed by the centre’s fresh and inviting atmosphere, noting that the detailed layout and thoughtfully designed interactive games made learning about the law easier and far more enjoyable.

MPU is the first higher education institution in Macao to organise university students to visit the GBA Youth Constitution and Basic Law Education Centre. The initiative aims to empower young people by encouraging them to step beyond campus and engage with national legal education in the Greater Bay Area. The goal is to strengthen their awareness of national security and social stability. The university also encourages students to uphold the May Fourth spirit—embracing courage, responsibility, and innovation—and to actively participate in the rule of law development in both the Greater Bay Area and the Cooperation Zone. By integrating into the broader national development strategy, they are helping to tell the inspiring story of “One Country, Two Systems” in Macao.
