A student from the Bachelor of Arts in Music Programme of the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) at the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Lei Changkun, performed outstandingly and stood out among excellent athletes from around the world at the global finals in the 12th International Vocal Open Competition 2025, winning the Second Prize in the “Opera Open Category.”  

The competition, organised by the Hong Kong International Musicians Association, aimed to promote the development of vocal arts, elevate singing standards, and discover a new generation of talented singers, as well as providing them with opportunities to perform on the world stage. The organiser simultaneously launched global auditions in over 200 countries and regions, attracting more than 100,000 participants. Lei Changkun achieved the highest overall score in the Macau regional selection competition. She won first prize in the “Opera Open Group” category and advanced to the global finals, where she competed against over 1,000 participants from 15 countries. Lei Changkun ultimately secured the prestigious the second prize in the “Opera Open Group” category.

MPU Faculty of Arts and Design, Bachelor of Arts in Music Programme, students delivered outstanding performances in the Macao regional competition, secured multiple awards, including the First Prize (Lei Changkun), the Second Prize (Wu Shuangrong, Liao Beijia, Yang Junbin, Zong Xiaohuan, Cai Shiyi), and the Third Prize (You Xirui, Duan Siyu). Among them, Lei Changkun stood out at the global finals and won the Second Prize in the "Opera Open Category", competed with over 1,000 participants from 15 countries. Lei Changkun expressed gratitude for the university's training and guidance, and said s/he was looking forward to learning and exchanging experiences in more international competitions in the future, as well as striving to bring further honours to Macao Polytechnic University.
