MPU FAD Holds “Harmony in Sound” Concert
The Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) recently held the “Harmony in Sound”- MPU Orchestra and Music Programme Choir Joint Concert in the university auditorium. The event featured over 100 students from the university orchestra and the Music Programme's choir, drawing an enthusiastic audience of faculty, students, and people from the community. It demonstrated the excellence of music education at Macao Polytechnic University and was a new chapter in the development of the music industry in Macao.
During the concert, the MPU Music Programme Choir performed five songs in different languages and styles, ranging from upbeat and rhythmic sacred pieces to emotionally moving pop songs. The MPU Orchestra presented four impressive pieces during the concert, including the passionate and lively “Carnival of the Animals” and the distinctive “English Folk Song Suite”. The climax of the concert was the joint performance of “China in the Light” by both the orchestra and choir, which brought the event to a fulfilling conclusion. The songs were full of emotional power and contemporary significance, demonstrating the charm of contemporary China and bringing the whole concert to a beautiful conclusion.
The choir consists of students from the Music Education and Music Performance majors, and were conducted by Associate Professor Maria Vanessa Leão. The newly established Macao Polytechnic University Orchestra includes students from the Bachelor of Arts in Music programme as well as the other faculties, conducted by Mr. Leong Ngok Meng.
This music gala not only was a successful collaboration between the orchestra and choir at Macao Polytechnic University, but also a vibrant celebration of the campus's cultural life. The University is committed to cultivating diverse talents and actively promoting social development and cultural exchange. The successful hosting of this music gala is a concrete manifestation of the university’s educational philosophy and heralds a harmonious chapter for the future development of both the university and society.
Macao Polytechnic University is the only institution of higher learning in Macao that currently offers the Bachelor of Arts in Music, and has two majors: “Music Education” and “Music Performance”.
