The finals of the 10th Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition were held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Li Xinyi, a student in the Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation Program from the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Macao Polytechnic University, demonstrated exceptional bilingual proficiency, quick thinking, and composed performance to stand out among top contestants from leading universities worldwide. Representing Macao, she was awarded the National Third Prize, along with the Macao Regional Second Prize.

Zhang Yunfeng, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, congratulated the student on her outstanding achievement. The Faculty adheres to the educational philosophy of ‘Integrating Chinese and Western Learning, Emphasizing Practice and Innovation’. It continues to deepen cooperation with international bodies such as the European Commission's Directorate-General for Interpretation and actively promotes high-level training programs in Chinese-English and Chinese-Portuguese interpreting. These initiatives provide students with internationally-aligned practical platforms and are dedicated to cultivating versatile translation professionals with global competitiveness. Through multidimensional strategies—including curriculum design, competition participation, and university-industry collaboration—the Faculty supports students in leveraging language as a medium to contribute their expertise to the development of the Greater Bay Area and global dialogue.

One of the important national academic events initiated and hosted by Xiamen University, the Cross-Strait Interpreting Competition has been successfully held for ten editions since 2009, attracting participants from over 2,000 universities across Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, as well as countries and regions such as Singapore and the United States. Widely recognized for its professionalism and influence, the competition has become an important platform for advancing interpreter training and cross-cultural exchange. During the preparation period, Li Xinyi received intensive coaching from MPU Associate Professors Wang Yuying and Zhu Ying, focusing on honing consecutive interpreting skills and strengthening cross-cultural communication competence. She reflected that participating in the competition was not only a test of her professional abilities but also a profound experience of translation's mission as a bridge for communication. She also expressed her gratitude for the international practice resources and expert guidance provided by MPU, which enabled her to step onto a larger stage.
