MPU’s “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre Delivered Lectures on the Three Laws at Escola Luso-Chinesa Técnico-Profissional
In support of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen patriotic education, the “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) seized the opportunity presented by the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the National Security Education Day to conduct its “Constitution and Basic Law on Campus” lecture series. Between January and June this year, the Centre delivered lectures on the Constitution, the Macao Basic Law and the Macao National Security Law in local secondary schools. The aim was to enhance Macao’s young students’ awareness of the Constitution, their concept of national security, and their spirit of patriotism and love for Macao. The activity received enthusiastic responses and strong support from fifteen secondary schools, with a total of 2,700 teachers and students participating.
Prof. Leng Tiexun, Director of the “One Country Two Systems” Research Centre of MPU, stated that the “Constitution and Basic Law on Campus” lectures focus on the relevant provisions of the Constitution, the Macao Basic Law and the Macao National Security Law. By incorporating vivid examples of Macao’s successful practice of “One Country, Two Systems” since its return to the motherland, the lectures aim to help local secondary students gain a deeper understanding of the solid safeguarding role these three laws play in maintaining Macao’s peace and stability as well as overall national security; protecting residents’ rights, freedoms, and well-being; and promoting economic diversification and integration into the nation’s development. The secondary schools participating in this round of activities included: Escola Luso-Chinesa Técnico-Profissional, Sacred Heart Canossian College (English Section), Pui Ching Middle School (Coloane Campus), Kao Yip Middle School, Escola Secundária Nocturna Xin Hua, Escola Sun Wah, Escola Tung Nam, Escola Fong Chong da Taipa, Escola Seong Fan da Associação Comercial de Macau, Macau Baptist College, Escola Portuguesa de Macau, Premier School Affiliated to Hou Kong Middle School, Sheng Kung Hui Choi Kou School Macau, Escola Choi Nong Chi Tai, and Escola Oficial Zheng Guanying. Since its inception five years ago, the “Constitution and Basic Law on Campus” lecture series has cumulatively engaged approximately 24,000 teachers and students from various secondary schools in Macao, achieving positive results.
Participating students expressed how the lectures reinforced their sense of national identity, and awareness of respecting and abiding by the law. They gained a clearer understanding of the crucial role the Constitution and the Basic Law jointly play in ensuring Macao's long-term prosperity and stability, as well as the well-being of its residents, and benefited a great deal from the experience.
