In order to enrich university students’ leisure activities and promote interdisciplinary learning, the Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has established a summer enrichment platform for students during the summer holiday by organising the “AI and New Media Application Workshop” and the “Leather Accessories Making Workshop”. The workshops foster students’ holistic development via interdisciplinary applications of artificial intelligence and cultural innovation, which help them to master cutting-edge technology alongside traditional craftsmanship, and strengthen their comprehensive qualities and innovative practical capabilities.

The “AI and New Media Application Workshop” focused on contemporary digital content trends by systematically guiding students to utilise Large Language Models (LLMs) for precise prompt creation, enabling them to effectively create multimedia promotional materials such as written content, visual graphics and short videos, in order to cultivate students’ practical skills in digital marketing. The “Leather Accessories Making Workshop”, emphasised creative application; under the guidance of a professional craftswoman, students fully engaged in the steps of leather accessory making, from design to fabrication, crafting their own leather keychains with personal characteristics. As well as introducing traditional craftsmanship skills, the workshop further developed students’ design thinking abilities.

The students participating in the “AI and New Media Application Workshop” stated that the workshop enhances their capabilities in the use of digital tools. Through the combination of AI and New Media, it advances their profound understanding of publicity and strengthens the communicative influence of written content. In the “Leather Accessories Making Workshop”, students stated that by thoroughly considering each step of crafting, it enhanced their concentration and patience, enjoying the pleasure of the crafting process.

MPU’s Student Affairs Office hopes that with the help of these workshops, students continuously develop innovative mindsets and promote their holistic development. By organising various activities during leisure time in summer, students can be oriented to explore their potential and enrich their campus life during the summer holidays, thereby establishing a solid foundation for diverse development in the future.
