Central Academy of Fine Arts Scholar Lectures on Chinese Art and Culture at MPU

To promote diverse exchanges in art education and guide students in exploring the profound significance of Chinese art and culture, the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), invited Professor Shao Yan, the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and a renowned art historian, to deliver two insightful “Chinese Art and Culture” seminars to MPU students and teachers respectively. The seminars aimed to bridge cross-regional exchanges in art education.

Professor Shao Yan applied the “Riverside Scene at Qingming” and the Silk Road legend of Li Gonglin’s “Five Horses” to guide the teachers and students through time and space to gain a deeper understanding of the urban landscape of Song Dynasty society and the culture of Silk Road. Through the cross-referencing of high-definition digital images and rich historical documents, she vividly recreated the social landscape of the Song Dynasty and analysed the significance of elements such as foreign merchants and tribute horses in the paintings, which symbolised the fusion of diverse civilisations. This provided the students with profound inspiration both visually and intellectually. The teachers and students noted that the seminar was helpful to broaden their macro perspective on art history and ignite their passions as well as the sense of Chinese culture.

The series of seminars were part of a collaborative project between the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of Macao Polytechnic University and the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), aimed to strengthen the academic depth of teachers and broaden students' perspectives on art history. The Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts of Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) of Macao Polytechnic University will continue to introduce top scholars from around the world, host diverse academic activities, and cultivate artistic talents with international insights and cultural foundations through the combination of tradition and innovation.
