MPU Students Gain Fruitful Experiences from Participating in 2025 “Oasis Action” Ecological Programme
The “Oasis Action” Ecological Programme, organised by the Chinese Educators’ Association of Macau, was successfully held in Chengde, Hebei Province. Under the guidance of the Student Affairs Office of the Macau Polytechnic University (MPU), students participated alongside representatives of from various tertiary institutions and secondary schools across Macao in a five-day educational and ecological study tour. The programme provided participants with profound insights into environmental sustainability and cultural heritage, yielding meaningful and enriching experiences.
The study delegation comprised over 30 representatives from tertiary institutions and secondary schools in Macao. Under the coordination of “Oasis Action” Ecological Programme Organising Committee and related institutions, the group visited several renowned ecological sites, including Saihanba National Forest Park—recipient of the United Nations’ highest environmental honour, the “Champions of the Earth” award—Ulan Butong Grassland, and Qinchuifeng National Forest Park, where they experienced the grandeur of nature and conducted field studies on China’s ecological environment. The delegation also visited the Rehe Revolutionary Martyrs’ Memorial Hall to gain a deeper understanding of the historical context of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and to learn about the noble spirit of sacrifice demonstrated by revolutionary martyrs. In addition, participants toured the Chengde Mountain Resort, the Little Potala Palace, and the Panchen Lama’s Palace, attended the “Emperor Kangxi’s Grand Ceremony” performance, and explored the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Qing Dynasty.
Cai Leer, a student from the Peking University Health Science Centre - Macao Polytechnic University Nursing Academy, said this journey was deeply enriching. One of the highlights was visiting the Saihanba National Forest Park, renowned for its vast man-made forests and grassland landscapes, which stands as a miracle of transformation from desert to oasis. After gaining a deeper understanding of the multi-generational efforts of forest workers, students were profoundly inspired to reflect on environmental protection. “The past, if not forgotten, is a guide for the future.” This journey strengthened students’ understanding and love for their motherland, deepened their appreciation for the richness of Chinese culture, and taught them about the contributions of the people of Rehe to history and the heroic revolutionary spirit of the martyrs.
