MPU and SMG Co-organise Meteorological Technician Training Programme

To promote the development of meteorological technology in Macao, and to meet the needs of social services, while enriching the talent reserve of meteorological professionals, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), in collaboration with the Macao Special Administrative Region Government - Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG), is launching “Meteorological Technician Training Course”, in accordance with the standards of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Registration for the course will be open from August 18 to August 29, 2025, and welcomes applications from permanent Macao residents who hold a high school diploma or above and are interested in pursuing a career in meteorology.

The course will be taught in Chinese and consists of a total of 336 hours of instruction. The curriculum aligns with the competency requirements for meteorological technicians set by the WMO, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical training. The curriculum includes mathematics, physics, meteorology, climatology, fundamental and mesoscale meteorology, meteorological parameters, instruments and observation methods., among others. During the practical training period, participants are required to complete 30 hours of practical training at the SMG to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and gain deeper insights into the practical application of meteorological science.

Participants who have accomplished all subject examinations and practical training will be awarded a certificate issued by the Centre for Continuing Education of Macao Polytechnic University (CEC).
