MPU Welcomes New Students with Orientation Activities, Embarking on a New Chapter of University Life
MPU welcomes new students with orientation activities, embarking on a new chapter of university life
At the beginning of the new academic year, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) organised a series of orientation activities to welcome 3,000 freshmen enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programmes. The cohort includes students from Macao, the Chinese mainland, Portuguese-speaking countries, and various other regions around the world. These activities aim to help new students adapt to university life; gain a better understanding of their disciplines and majors; and build friendship with their peers, laying a solid foundation for their future academic and personal development.
The MPU Opening and Orientation Launching Ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic year was held in the Multi-Sport Pavilion, signifying an official welcome to freshmen about to embark on a new chapter in MPU. During the orientation activities, Rector Marcus Im had a cordial talk with the new students, thus creating a joyful and delightful atmosphere. Rector Marcus Im encouraged the new students to carry forward the spirit of “loving the motherland and loving Macao,” to utilise the plentiful learning resources in MPU, to devote themselves to learn and grow, and to strive for an outstanding excellence. A number of orientation decorations were also set up throughout the campus. New students and their families and friends were invited to explore and to cheer for the new academic year.
To help freshmen integrate into campus life, each academic unit held Degree Programme Seminars that provided information on the curriculum structure, characteristics and details on degree programmes, the future development perspectives and the academic requirements, thereby enabling new students to plan ahead their studies at the beginning of the new academic year. In addition, representatives from Student Affairs Office, Registry, Pedagogic and Research Affairs Office, Library and Information Technology Department presented an overview of campus services and student activities, covering whole-person development scheme, student support services, international exchange opportunities, campus facilities, university regulations and information technology resources, helping freshmen familiarise themselves with different campus services, encouraging them to engage in extra-curriculum activities proactively, thereby fully enhancing their overall competencies. In the meantime, in collaboration with the Macao SAR government’s “Campus Anti-Fraud Vaccination Programme,” MPU invited representatives from the Judiciary Police to share the latest scam tactics and anti-scam strategies, in order to raise students’ awareness of fraud prevention.
This series of orientation activities encompassed other events such as Student Activities Fair, International Students Welcome Day, Crime Prevention Week and Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival. In addition, the Student Union, Sports and Debate Teams and other student activities programmes set up recruitment booths, where students were encouraged to sign up, so as to engage in different activities on campus, to broaden their interpersonal networks, to immerse themselves in a fruitful and enthusiastic university life, thus cultivating a wonderful journey in MPU.
