Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) hosted a flag-raising ceremony at 8:00 AM on 26th August to mark the first day of the 2025/2026 academic year. With solemnity and high spirits, staff and students gathered to welcome the new semester with renewed vigour. The ceremony also served to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, honouring the enduring spirit of resistance.
The ceremony was performed by the MPU student National Flag Team. Marching in precise and resolute steps, the team escorted the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the flag of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and the MPU university flag to the flagpoles. As the national anthem played, the Five-Star Red Flag was raised, with all staff and students paying their respectful attention in a dignified and solemn atmosphere.
Rector Marcus Im stated that MPU is committed to nurturing outstanding talent who possess both a patriotic spirit and an international perspective. Holding the national flag-raising ceremony on the first day of the academic year aims to uphold the fine tradition of patriotism and love for Macao, strengthen the national pride of staff and students, build upon past achievements, and forge a new future. Rector Im encouraged all faculty and students to actively promote the spirit of patriotism, love for Macao, and relentless progress, transforming it into a powerful drive for the pursuit of truth and academic excellence. He urged them to build upon their specialised studies, strive for scholarly peaks, and contribute to the development of the nation and Macao.
The ceremony was also attended by Vice Rector Vivian Lei, Acting Secretary-General Carmen Mok, along with deans and deputy deans of various faculties, department heads, staff, and students.
