MPU Students Win One Gold, Two Silver, and Three Bronze Medals at the 17th World Wushu Championships
The 17th World Wushu Championships were held in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, drawing participants from nearly 90 countries and bringing together around a thousand top martial artists from around the globe. Students and alumni from Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) delivered outstanding performances, representing Macao in various events including Men’s Group Sparring, Women’s Staff, Men’s Spear, Women’s Sword, Women’s 60kg Sanda, and Women’s 48kg Sanda. Their efforts earned an impressive haul of one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals—bringing pride to both Macao and the university.
MPU Rector Marcus Im congratulated the athletes on their outstanding performance, praising their determination and sportsmanship. He noted that their success brings pride to both the university and Macao, and reflects the excellence of MPU students and alumni in the field of sports. MPU remains committed to encouraging student participation in international competitions, aiming to enhance athletic excellence and a global perspective, while continuing to nurture top-tier sports talent for Macao and the nation.
MPU student Kuong Chi Hin from the Bachelor of Physical Education programme delivered an outstanding performance by securing a gold medal in Men’s Group Sparring and a silver medal in Men’s Spear. Master’s graduate in Sports and Physical Education, Sou Cho Man, claimed silver in Women’s Staff. Meanwhile, Wong Weng Ian (Bachelor of Physical Education), Chu Man Sin (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), and Liang Xuezhen (Master of Sports and Physical Education) each earned bronze medals in Women’s Sword, Women’s 60kg Sanda, and Women’s 48kg Sanda respectively.
Kuong Chi Hin expressed his gratitude to the Macao SAR Government and MPU for providing excellent support and opportunities that enabled students to compete in world-class events and achieve outstanding results. He shared his commitment to continuing his efforts, striving for excellence in both academic studies and martial arts as he moves forward.
