Rector Marcus Im Sio Kei led a group of teachers and students on a visit to “For National Liberation and World Peace – Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Chinese Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War” Thematic Exhibition

In commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, 3,000 faculty staff and students of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) participated in a series of activities. These included “Live-Streaming Event: Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War”, Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance – Macao Youth Forum, “For National Liberation and World Peace – Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of Chinese Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War” Thematic Exhibition, and the following commemorative activities organised by the MPU: A special lecture and the Photo and Research Achievements Exhibition on “Macao’s Role and Contribution in Chinese National War of Resistance” and the Patriotic Tour: “Exploring the Traces of Patriotism” in Guangdong. Through the series of commemorative activities, we aimed to broaden the knowledge of our teachers and students regarding the history of the Chinese National War of Resistance, thereby promoting the spirit of “Love for the motherland, Love for Macao”.

Professor Marcus Im Sio Kei, Rector of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), was at its core to lead different groups of teachers and students on visits to the thematic exhibition. He highlighted that MPU has implemented patriotic education through systematic learning and diversified practical activities, guiding students to establish a sound understanding of the country, history, ethnicity, and national security. He also encouraged young people to dare to take responsibility, be proactive and to dedicate themselves to the high-quality development of China and Macao.

Different academic units, Students’ Union and the National Flag Team have actively facilitated teachers and students to participate in various commemorative activities. Among these activities, the special lecture and the Photo and Research Achievements Exhibition on “Macao’s Role and Contribution in Chinese National War of Resistance”, which were organised by the Macao Polytechnic University, had attracted people from all sectors of society, teachers, and students to participate and to visit the exhibition, thereby promoting and letting young students and citizens become aware of the history and Macao’s contribution in the Chinese National War of Resistance. Moreover, the Patriotic Tour: “Exploring the Traces of Patriotism” guided students to conduct an on-site inspection of the Guangdong Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall and the former site of the Dalingshan Anti-Japanese Base Area. Through the historical atmosphere at the scene and the compelling documentaries, we honoured the noble spirits of our ancestors and martyrs who went forward one after another and sacrificed themselves for the country. Students who participated in this tour commented that history was the mark of the nation as well as the nourishment for youth growth; we should remember history, cherish peace, and firmly maintain the belief in national security and unity as a youth in the new era.
