Faculty of Languages and Translation of Macao Polytechnic University, committed to advancing academic innovation and research excellence, has recently received further good news. Associate Professor Mark Teng Feng of the Faculty has been formally appointed as Co-Editor of the renowned academic journal Reading in a Foreign Language, taking up the journal’s editorial work alongside Professor Zhou Jing from the University of Hawaii and Professor Liu Yeu-Ting from National Taiwan Normal University. Concurrently, Xing Weili, a PhD candidate in Applied Language Sciences at MPU, has been appointed as Assistant Editor of this journal. The academic appointment signifies international recognition of the Faculty for its scholarly influence in the field of applied linguistics, further solidifying its standing within the global academic community.

The journal Reading in a Foreign Language, supported by American National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC) at the University of Hawaii, is an authoritative academic publication in its specialized field. As a sister publication to the SSCI Q1 quartile journal Language Learning & Technology, it has long been dedicated to publishing cutting-edge research in second language reading theory, teaching practice, and cross-linguistic reading cognition. According to the latest Scopus data, the journal ranks in the Scopus/ESCI Q1 category within the linguistics field, with an H-index of 11, demonstrating its outstanding international citation impact and academic recognition.

Associate Professor Mark Teng Feng, who has been appointed as Co-Editor, currently serves as the Coordinator of the Faculty’s PhD in Applied Language Sciences Programme. His research interests include second language acquisition, reading cognition, and the integration of technology in language education, with a prolific academic output. From 2021 to 2024, he has been continuously ranked in “Top 2% Scientists List” (Linguistics Category) released by Stanford University, demonstrating his extensive international influence. Mark Teng stated that this appointment will help amplify the Asia-Pacific region’s voice in foreign language reading research and foster deeper collaboration among scholars across regions.

Xing Weili, Assistant Editor, is among the first cohort of doctoral candidates admitted to the PhD in Applied Linguistics Programme at MPU. His research interests include technology-assisted vocabulary acquisition and cognitive mechanisms in foreign language reading comprehension. To date, he has published two SSCI papers and two Scopus/ESCI Q1 journal articles, demonstrating MPU’s remarkable achievements in cultivating high-level talent.
