On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Portugal, and to further leverage Macao as an important platform of "precise liaison" between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, “The 9th World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition”, jointly organized by the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Macao Polytechnic University, officially commences on October 8th, 2025.
The World Chinese-Portuguese Translation Competition upholds its mission of promoting high-level talent cultivation in Chinese and Portuguese and cultural exchange, focusing on enhancing the professional capabilities of university students worldwide in Chinese-Portuguese translation and cross-cultural communication. The competition aims to strengthen mutual learning and exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the field of language and culture, help Macao build itself into an international exchange platform with language services as a link, and widely promote cutting-edge achievements in Chinese-Portuguese translation teaching and research in countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Since its inception in 2017, the competition has been successfully held for eight consecutive years, attracting over a thousand outstanding teams from more than one hundred higher education institutions worldwide. It has gradually developed into a major Sino-Portuguese language and cultural event with broad international influence, making significant contributions to promoting Sino-Portuguese academic exchanges and civil dialogue in the humanities.
This year's competition is jointly guided by the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government and the Translators Association of China, with strong support from the Asia-Pacific Station of China Media Group, the Language Big Data Alliance (LBDA), and the Coordinating Committee of Portuguese Polytechnic Institutions of Higher Learning (CCISP). The organizing committee officially releases the competition rules and opens the registration channel online at 6:00 PM on October 8, 2025. We sincerely invite faculty, students, and enthusiasts of Sino-Portuguese language and culture worldwide to participate and join us in this grand event.
