MPU Research Team Wins Championship at HECKTOR 2025 International Head and Neck Tumour Imaging Analysis Challenge

The International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI 2025) was held in Daejeon, South Korea. The Intelligent Medical Computing Laboratory at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) delivered an outstanding performance at the conference: 16 high-quality papers were accepted for presentation, and the Laboratory claimed the championship at the highly anticipated "HECKTOR 2025" International Head and Neck Tumour Imaging Analysis Challenge, demonstrating MPU's leading position in the field of medical artificial intelligence (AI).

MICCAI is a globally authoritative academic conference in medical image computing and computer-assisted intervention, renowned for its rigorous review standards and fierce competition, and holds significant international academic influence. At the "HECKTOR 2025" Challenge—a key event during the conference—the Intelligent Medical Computing Laboratory at MPU stood out among numerous world-leading teams and clinched the championship title, due to its innovative technologies and outstanding research capabilities.

In addition, MPU's Intelligent Medical Computing Laboratory collaborated with internationally renowned institutions such as the Netherlands Cancer Institute to organize "Deep-Breath 2025: the 2nd Deep Breast Workshop on AI and Imaging for Diagnostic and Treatment Challenges in Breast Care", an official workshop of MICCAI 2025. The Laboratory also took the lead in hosting one of the major events: the "Universal Ultrasound Image Challenge: Multi-Organ Classification and Segmentation (UUSIC25)" International Challenge. Dedicated to advancing the development of universal ultrasound analysis models, this challenge attracted extensive participation from global researchers due to its innovative multi-task evaluation mechanism and emphasis on clinical practicality.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences of MPU is committed to driving innovative development in medical AI, and its research outcomes have important international impact. Through research publications, participation in international competitions, and hosting of international seminars and contests, MPU contributes to advancing the application and development of AI technologies in precision medicine.
