Prof. Wang Puqu
Professor Wang Puqu is Deputy Director of the Political Development and Government Institute of Peking University (Key Research Base in Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education of China). He also serves as professor and PhD student advisor at the School of Government of Peking University as well as vice chairman respectively of the Chinese Political Studies Association and the Chinese Public Administration Society.
Devoted to research in Political Theory and Method, Public Administration and Public Management, and Chinese Politics, Professor Wang has presided over numerous key national projects in Philosophy and Social Sciences. He has led, for instance, the projects of the “10th/11th/12th Five-Year Plan for the State Planning Commission of Philosophy and Social Sciences”, and the “Report on the Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Chinese Colleges and Universities (Political Science) 2005-2010”.
In terms of academic publications, major books of Professor Wang’s include Foundations of Politics, Theory and Institution of Elections, Outsourcing Government-financed Social Services to Civil Society Organizations: Lessons from China and Abroad, Report on the Development of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Chinese Colleges and Universities: 1978-2008 (Politics),etc.He has also translated several academic works, including System Analysis on Political Life,Lessons from the Mode of East Asia and Theory and Practice of Universal Human Rights.
Professor Wang has received numerous honours from the Chinese Government, which include the “Trans-Century Talents” of the Ministry of Education, the “National Excellent Young Teacher” of the Ministry of Education, and the “Central ‘Four of Batch’ Social Sciences Talents”.
Other positions Professor Wang serves concurrently include amongst others Vice Director of the Political Subject Consultative Group in the State Planning Commission of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Convener of Politics, Sociology and Ethnology Department in the Social Sciences Commission of the Ministry of Education, and Vice Director of the National Politics Teaching-guided Committee in the Ministry of Education.
