Abstract Macao’s higher education sector enjoys the highest density in the world since it has 10 tertiary educational institutions with a population of over 500,000. The massification of Macao’s higher education has turned it into a buyer’s market. Consequently higher education institutions have to face the problem of a declining student population due to the decreasing birth rate in Macao in recent years. Against such a backdrop, higher education institutions have strived to attract more students and to be more competitive by improving their teaching quality. This paper, taking Macao Polytechnic Institute as an example, showcases how the institute has actively responded to Macao’s Higher Education Reform, and becomes the first higher education institution in Macao to pass the accreditation of the British Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. The institute has also promoted the communication and feedback mechanism with its stakeholders. On the basis of the survey results on the employers’ satisfaction with the Institute, this paper analyses employers’ evaluation and expectations for the graduates, and puts forward corresponding measures to optimize teaching so as to improve the quality of higher education. |
