Keynote Speech:
Quality Assurance of Higher Education in the Era of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

The introduction and advancement of generative artificial intelligence (AI), a powerful tool that can create original contents, especially text-based contents using underlying AI models, such as a large language model (LLM) has drastically change the way how learning takes place. While there is definitely the good side of generative AI in assisting us to learn more, faster and better, there are also risks and threats that come with the use of the technology. Authenticity of learning is now being questioned more than ever, and Quality Assurance of higher education programmes, both internal and external, will have to seriously address the increasing threats posed by generative AI to ensure that the intended learning outcomes of students or learners are met and not compromised, while promoting fairness and equity in learning. This keynote will try to address the various potential and threats of generative AI and recommend the ethical use of AI in learning for institutions, academics and students.
