MPU Receives the 2024 APQN Quality Awards

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been conferred the “APQN Quality Awards” at the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) Academic Conference and Annual General Meeting 2024. It is the only higher education institution in Macao to have secured the “APQN Quality Awards” four times. The educational quality of Macao’s higher education has been internationally recognised, demonstrating MPU’s commitment to pursuing excellence and quality development in teaching and research.

A team from MPU identified the prevalence, epidemiological, and molecular characteristics of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Macau

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Li Kefeng, Xing Abao, a PhD student in AIDD at the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Macao Polytechnic University, collaborated with Associate Professor Ye Qianhong and student Jiao Huining to publish a research paper titled "The Prevalence, Epidemiological, and Molecular Characterization of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Macau (2017-2022)" in the international microbiology journal Microorganisms. The study, led by Xing, aimed to construct an AI model for predicting the prevalence of MRSA in Macau, providing scientific support for the development of the broader healthcare industry in the region.

MPU shortlisted in the top eight of the Times Higher Education Awards Asia earning international recognition in environmental technology innovation

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been shortlisted as one of the top eight finalists for the "Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership" category in the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2024. This recognition showcases MPU's strengths in environmental research and education, drawing international acclaim. The award aims to honour higher education institutions demonstrating leadership in environmental contribution, with prestigious universities like the University of Hong Kong and the National University of Singapore also in the running. The winner will be announced at the end of April.

Brazilian Linguist Adriana Pagano Delivers Academic Lectures on "Corpus and Translation" and "Cognitive Approach to Translation Studies" at MPU

In order to enhance academic cooperation with prestigious universities and scholars in Portuguese-speaking countries and explore the latest research advancements in the interdisciplinary fields of translation studies and cutting-edge corpus studies, the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Macao Polytechnic University extended an invitation to Adriana Pagano, a linguistics professor from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. She delivered a series of five academic lectures on "Corpus and Translation" and "Cognitive Approach to Translation Studies". These lectures garnered significant interest from both faculty members and students. The lecture series was conducted using a blend of online and in-person delivery, with active engagement and lively interactions among FLT faculty and students.

Medical imaging, a common non-invasive technique used in physical examinations, enables the detection of physiological structures and pathological conditions within organs or tissues. MPU’s Research Findings on Digital Watermarking Technology Published in Top International Academic Journal

Associate Professor Yuan Xiaochen of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Macao Polytechnic University and her research team has published a high-level academic paper related to multiple watermarking technology, “Parallel Multiple Watermarking Using Adaptive Inter-Block Correlation”, in the top international academic journal "Expert Systems with Applications". This journal is a top international academic journal in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence. It is a “double Q1” journal; that is, it belongs to both SCIE Q1 and is also a first zone journal in the computer science category of the SCI division of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is an A-level journal recognized by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and is ranked 5th among artificial intelligence journals in the H-index on Google Scholar.

Journal of Macao Polytechnic University has been selected as a CSSCI source journal

Recently, the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) database of the Institute for Chinese Social Sciences Research and Assessment of Nanjing University announced that the Journal of Macao Polytechnic University (Humanities and Social Sciences Edition) has been selected as one of the CSSCI (2023-2024) source journal. The successful selection of the Journal of Macao Polytechnic University as a CSSCI source journal demonstrates the recognition of Macao's academic community and the affirmation of Macao Polytechnic University's scientific research achievements.

Research Achievements in Biomembrane Studies by Scholars from MPU Published in Top Computational Mathematics Journal

In recent years, computational simulation methods have greatly enhanced the microscale understanding of biomembrane structures, and their dynamic properties and functions across various fields. Professor Guo Jingjing, Professor Liu Huanxiang and Dr. Li Shu from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Driven Drug Discovery at Macao Polytechnic University, in collaboration with Professor Mu Yuguang from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, published a paper titled “Application of computational approaches in biomembranes: From structure to function” in July. The paper was published in WIREs Computational Molecular Science, a top-ranked computational mathematics journal (Citation score: 20.1; Impact factor: 11.4) (https://doi.org/10.1002/wcms.1679).

MPU Published Conference Proceedings of the Fourteenth Higher Education International Conference

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has published the “Proceedings of the Fourteenth Higher Education International Conference on Online Teaching and Sustainable Quality Assurance: Challenges and Perspectives”. The proceedings contain selected papers from the online conference of the same name co-organised by MPU and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) in November 2022. The conference discussed the current situation and the future of quality assurance in higher education, innovation and influence in educational evaluation, the mechanism and effectiveness of online teaching in various disciplines, and digitisation of quality assurance, and participants benefited from the exchanges at this conference. The publication of the proceedings provides reference measures and research examples for the present and future of online modes of teaching and learning in higher education, as well as quality assurance for sustainable development.

MPU and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network co-organise “The 15th Higher Education International Conference” and the call for papers is now open

In order to continuously improve the quality of teaching and learning in higher education and to strengthen cooperation between Macao and higher education institutions in the region and the world, Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) will co-organise a conference at MPU from 11 to 13 December this year. “The 15th Higher Education International Conference -- Artificial Intelligence and Pedagogical Transformation: Implications for Higher Education Quality Assurance” aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance (QA) to explore the latest developments, challenges and opportunities in the field. The call for papers for the conference is now open until mid-October. We cordially invite people in related fields from Macao and around the world to publish and present papers.

An international research team formed by the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) advances some interdisciplinary and innovative applied research to unlock the potential of EVs and their batteries, enhancing sustainable transport to facilitate clean mobility and energy efficiency.

MPU research team’s interdisciplinary academic paper published in prestigious international journal

Mu Siqing, Ph.D. student in Portuguese, Li Aoxuan and Shen Lu, Ph.D. students in Computer Applied Technology, Han Lili, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation (FLT), and Professor Wen Zhisheng, have had an interdisciplinary academic paper "Linguistic Repertoires Embodied and Digitalized: A Computer-Vision-Aided Analysis of the Language Portraits by Multilingual Youth" published by the journal Sustainability. The paper has been officially published in a special issue of the journal entitled "Technology-Enhanced Language Teaching and Learning: Innovations, Challenges, and Concerns". The journal's current impact factor is 3.889.

Academic work of MPU published in top bioinformatics journal

The paper entitled "Predicting molecular properties based on the interpretable graph neural network with multistep focus mechanism" has been published by the top international bioinformatics journal, Briefings in Bioinformatics 2023, 24(1), 1-9, bbac534. The work the paper is based on was led by Professor Liu Huanxiang, Academic Leader, Centre for Artificial Intelligence Driven Drug Discovery, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Macao Polytechnic University, with Ms. Tian Yanan, a first-year doctoral student at Macao Polytechnic University, as the first author. The journal is No. 1 in the field of Mathematical and Computational Biology, with an impact factor of 13.994.

The e-book “Cognition, Language, Culture and Translation: a borderless and interdisciplinary dialogue” was successfully published

Recently, the e-book “Cognition, Language, Culture and Translation: a borderless and interdisciplinary dialogue” was successfully published by Macao Polytechnic University. The e-book is one of the important outcomes of the 2nd International Conference on Encounter with the Human Sciences & The 4th LinCog – International Symposium on Language and Cognition. The e-book is divided into 21 chapters and contains 21 high-quality papers. These papers are developed around the connection between language and cognition, showing the focus of interest and research results of the participating scholars.

MPU’s Postgraduate Research Achievements Have Been Published in Top International Journals

A paper co-authored by Li Jiaxuan, a graduate student of the Master of Science in Big Data and Internet of Things programme at the Macao Polytechnic University, and his supervisor has been published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, a leading international academic journal in the field of public health. The paper provides recommendations for improving the management of the healthcare sector. The journal, which has an impact factor (JIF) of 4.614 and is ranked first in public health on Google Scholar, is a top Q1 journal in the SSCI journals list and is included in other prestigious scientific databases such as SCIE and Scopus.
Lu Jing, a postgraduate student of the PhD in Portuguese programme at Macao Polytechnic University, Professor Han Lili, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, and Professor Carlos Ascenso André co-authored the academic paper “Portuguese Translation of Extralinguistic Cultural References in a Course in International Chinese: Application of Translation Strategies Proposed by Andrew Chesterman” (Tradução Portuguesa de Referências Culturais Extralinguísticas no Manual de Chinês Língua Não Materna: Aplicação de Estratégias de Tradução Propostas por Andrew Chesterman) which has been published in the journal Cadernos de Tradução.

This current issue of the journal covers academic papers regarding gaming and tourism. The purpose is to promote the sustainable development of the gaming and tourism industry, provide support for the scientific decision-making of the SAR government and gaming enterprises, and build a communication platform for gaming and tourism research.

MPU Signed Cooperation Agreement with the University of Coimbra, Portugal, to Promote Advanced Technologies in Smart Cities

The Macao Polytechnic University and the University of Coimbra, Portugal, held a ceremony at 18:00 on 24 November to sign a cooperation agreement to establish the MPU-UC Joint Research Laboratory in Advanced Technologies for Smart Cities (10:00 AM in Portugal time). This joint effort aims to further strengthen their collaboration in the training of technological and innovative talents, thereby helping Macao to accelerate the construction of smart cities, and promoting stronger ties between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in the fields of higher education and technological innovation. The agreement was signed by Professor Im Sio Kei, Rector of the Macao Polytechnic University, and Professor Amílcar Falcão, Rector of the University of Coimbra. This agreement capitalizes on the strengths of both parties in the fields of computer sciences, artificial intelligence, and information technology. It also provides a platform for technical innovations and training of talented engineers and scientists, who can make contribution to other scientific projects between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. More than 100 teachers and students from the two universities attended this ceremony.

MPU Has Published Conference Proceedings of “Education Innovation and Teaching Quality Assurance in the Post-Pandemic Era”

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has published the “Proceedings of the Thirteenth Higher Education International Conference on Education Innovation and Teaching Quality Assurance in the Post-Pandemic Era”. The proceedings contains selected papers from the online conference of the same name co-organised by MPU and Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) in November 2021. The conference explored topics such as innovation in thinking and methods of higher education in the post-pandemic era, quality assurance in teaching and learning, and the application of information technology in the context of the online education trend, and positive comments were received from the participants. The publication of the proceedings provides examples of measures and case studies for education innovation and high-quality higher education development in the post-pandemic era.

MPU Academic Publishes Linguistic Handbook by Cambridge University Press

The Cambridge Handbook of Working Memory and Language, co-edited by Associate Professor Wen Zhisheng of the Faculty of Languages and Translation of Macao Polytechnic University and Professor John Schwieter from Canada, was recently published by the prestigious Cambridge University Press. Included in Cambridge University Press' renowned "Cambridge Handbook of Languages ​​and Linguistics" Series, this handbook provides a comprehensive, updated and systematic discussion of the important role of human working memory in first and second language acquisition, processing, language impairment and cognitive training for the academic community at large.

Research of PhD Student of MPU Published in Top International Nursing Journal

The paper “Promoting enteral tube feeding safety and performance in preterm infants: A systematic review”, written by Lin Tian, a PhD student at the Macao Polytechnic University, in collaboration with experts from the United States and mainland China, proposes two clinical measures to effectively enhance the safety and efficacy of tube feeding for preterm infants, and was published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies, which is the top international academic journal in “Nursing”. With a Journal Impact Factor (JIF) of 5.837, the journal ranks first amongst more than 100 leading journals in the field of JCR nursing. It is also the top JCR Q1 journal in the category “Nursing” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and is also indexed by world-renowned databases such as SSCI, SCIE and Scopus.

Journal of Macao Polytechnic University ranks among the nation’s top journals for nine consecutive years

The Forum on RUC Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Achievements Evaluation System was held in Beijing on March 29, 2022. This forum was hosted by Renmin University of China (RUC) and organized by the RUC Book and News Information Center and the RUC Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Achievements Evaluation. Two results by the Research Center were released, including the “Republishing Index Ranking of Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals 2021” and the “Important Institutional Sources for Reprinted Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals (2021)”. The Journal of Macao Polytechnic University (JMPU) has been ranked for nine consecutive years among the nation’s top journals in humanities and social sciences run by higher education institutions, achieving the 8th in reprint rate, 11th in composite index, and 13th in reprint count. At present, there are about 1,150 academic journals run by Chinese universities, 338 of which have articles reprinted in full text in 2021, accounting for 29.4% of the total.

MPI Launches "Chinese-Portuguese Simultaneous Interpretation Machine Translation System" to Assist Construction of the Guangdong-Macao in-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin

To complement the development strategies of " the Belt and Road", exert the role of Macao as a service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and assist in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin, the "Chinese-Portuguese Simultaneous Interpretation Machine Translation System 2.0", developed by the Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence, Ministry of Education, at Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI)" was officially launched at MPI on the afternoon of November 9th. The new product is an industry-leading system of Chinese-Portuguese speech recognition and simultaneous interpretation, built in conjunction with the Greater Bay Area as an international innovation center of science and technology. Additionally, it has increased practical functions and human-machine interaction experience, whilst also improving the accuracy of speech recognition and machine translation to tie in with the development blueprints in increasing technology research and development, and developing industries such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things for the construction of the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin. The new product is welcome to be used by government departments and every industry organization.

MPI Leads Research in Vehicular Network Security and Safe Intelligent Driving

Dr. Kim Songkyoo (Amang), an associate professor in the School of Applied Sciences at Macao Polytechnic Institute, achieved outstanding research results in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) field on connected vehicle security. The achievement was published in the SCIE-indexed journal “Mathematics” in 2021, and the title of the publication was “Enhanced IoV Security Network by Using Blockchain Governance Game.” The international Journal “Mathematics” is considered to be in the top 7% of all Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and recognized transactions in the field of mathematics. At the same time, the paper was also recognized and collected in the SCIE and Scopus databases.

MPI has developed a concatenate-designed neural network system to enhance the classification accuracy of AI

A research team from the Engineering Research Centre of Applied Technology on Machine Translation and Artificial Intelligence, Ministry of Education at the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has investigated the concatenate-designed neural network model and its method of feature extraction from images, designed classifiers to collect features produced between network sets, and obtained results from the classifiers through the proposed normalization method for better classification. The research, contributed by PhD student Ka-Hou Chan, Professor Sio-Kei Im and Associate Professor Wei Ke, can be effectively applied to the tasks of recognition and classification and has significantly improved the accuracy and stability of the application.  The article  has been published in the internationally renowned artificial intelligence journal Neural Computing and Applications.

MPI’s Proceedings of the Twelfth Higher Education International Conference Has Been Published

The “Proceedings of the Twelfth Higher Education International Conference on Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance in Higher Education under the Pandemic” of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has now been published. The proceedings are a collection of selected papers from the online conference of the same name co-organised by MPI and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) in November 2020. The sudden COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 has brought great challenges to the higher education sector, and this conference was held in order to build an exchange platform for education coping with the global pandemic, and the opportunities and challenges of online education. The conference has received positive feedback from educators and scholars from around world. The publication of the proceedings provides an important reference value for the academic community to understand the teaching and learning quality assurance measures and practices of higher education institutions around the world in response to the pandemic.

The journal aims to promote the sustainable development of the gaming and tourism industry and to provide support for science-based decision-making across the government and gaming sectors. This academic journal seeks to serve as an exchange platform for gaming and tourism research work.

MPI launched e-platform for Portuguese language teaching resources to facilitate Portuguese learning

In order to further advance Macao as the “Sino-Portuguese Platform” and the “Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Talent Training Base”, to promote Portuguese language and related scientific research results in Macao to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Portuguese-speaking countries of the Belt and Road Initiative, and to facilitate the sharing of electronic resources in Portuguese language teaching and research, the Centre for Portuguese Studies of Macao Polytechnic Institute launched the Portuguese textbook Global Portuguese and the academic journal Orientes do Português online last year. These have been widely welcomed by Portuguese language learners. The Centre continues to promote the digitalization of Portuguese language teaching materials and has launched an online platform for Portuguese language e-textbooks and Sino-Portuguese academic monographs (https://cpclp.ipm.edu.mo/). Interested parties are welcome to read and download them for free.

Professor of MPI named among the World's Top Scientists

According to the World’s Top 2% Scientists List published by the research team of Stanford University in the United States, the top 2% of scientists were selected from nearly 7 million scientists in the world. The academic papers of Professor To Wai Ming of Macao Polytechnic Institute have been highly cited and he is amongst the top 2% of the world’s top scientists.

MPI PhD Students Won the Best Student Paper Award for Research on COVID-19 Prediction

Ziyue Yu and Lihua He, two PhD students of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI), recently won the Best Student Paper Award for their paper “Deep Learning for COVID-19 Prediction based on Blood Test” at the 6th International Conference on Internet of Things, Big Data and Security (IoTBDS 2021). This is the only best student paper at IoTBDS 2021, and was widely commended by the conference participants.

MPI publishes A Course in International Chinese

The Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has been forging ahead to strengthen academic disciplines, develop teaching materials and facilitate the development of language talents. Edited by Professor Lei Heong Iok, A Course in International Chinese, Elementary Level, Volume 1, has been published by the Beijing Commercial Press. It comprises a Student’s Book, an Exercise Book and a Teacher’s Book. As the first set of teaching materials on International Chinese developed in Macao and the first of its kind to present its content in Chinese, Portuguese and English, the publication of the coursebook plays a positive role in the development of International Chinese Education in Macao and the enhancement of the quality of teaching Chinese to learners from Portuguese-speaking countries.

MPI’s publication Macao People’s Resistance War Won the Ministry of Education’s 8th Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements of Higher Education Institutions (The Humanities and Social Sciences)

In the 8th Award for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements of Higher Education Institutions (The Humanities and Social Sciences) organized by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the book Macao People’s Resistance War published by the Centre of Sino-Western Cultural Studies of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) won in the category of “Popular Reading”. It is the first time for a Macao higher education institute to win in this category of the national award. Among more than 1,500 award-winning achievements nationwide, there are only 20 winners for the “Popular Reading” category, which shows that the research level of MPI has been recognized by academia and national authority.

MPI Publishes Chinese-Portuguese Teaching Materials to Promote Disciplinary Development

To contribute to Macao’s success in becoming the training base for Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talents, the teaching team of the School of Languages and Translation (ESLT) of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has published five Chinese-Portuguese interpretation and translation textbooks, covering topics such as translation theory and practice, literature and Chinese traditional medicine. The Chinese-Portuguese translation discipline has witnessed remarkable developments in recent years, but teaching materials in the local context have not been catching up. These publications are valuable teaching materials which have just now filled the gaps in the fields of Chinese-Portuguese translation studies and Chinese-Portuguese translation skills.

MPI Publishes the Second Issue of Global Gaming & Tourism Research

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has recently published the second issue of Global Gaming & Tourism Research. Launched in 2020, this academic journal aims to promote the sustainable development of the gaming and tourism industry. While serving as an exchange platform for gaming and tourism research, Global Gaming & Tourism Research also seeks to provide support for science-based decision-making across the public and gaming sectors. After its inaugural issue was published, Global Gaming & Tourism Research has attracted significant interest from various sectors. The second issue of the journal publishes ten academic papers on gaming and tourism with contributing authors from the United States, Mainland China and Macao. Among them, there are seven papers in the section of gambling research and three papers under the tourism research section.

MPI’s Academic Book on Gaming Technology Published by World-Renowned Publisher

The academic book written by the Macao Polytechnic Institute’s (MPI) Computing Programme titled"Principles of Gaming Technologies" was recently published by McGraw Hill, a world-renowned publisher founded in 1888. Being the first academic book in the field of gaming technology in Macao, it is of great significance to the internationalization of Macao’s science and technology products, and contributes to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to become an International Innovation & Technology Centre. Co-authored by Associate Professor Andrew Siu Ka Meng and Associate Professor Philip Lei Iat Seng of the Computing Programme of MPI, this book signifies the accomplishment of joint efforts among teachers and students since the launch of the first Gaming Technology specialization in the Computing Programme in Macao, and it provides a comprehensive, systematic and professional supplement to nurture specialists on information technology.

A New Book “Public Policies in the Execution of “One Country, Two Systems” (Proceedings of the named academic conference)” is published

The “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has just published a new book, “One Country, Two Systems” Series – Public Policies in the Execution of “One Country, Two Systems” (Proceedings of the named academic conference). The book is the proceedings of the named academic conference held by the “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre of MPI on 21 July 2020. It is a compilation of the 15 papers presented at the conference. The Macao Special Administrative Region has successfully implemented the policy of “One Country, Two Systems,” “Macao people ruling Macao,” and a high degree of autonomy for 20 years. The third ten-year development period of the Macao SAR has just started. The sudden appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and the complex changing situation at the international level have brought forth unprecedented tests and huge challenges to the new Macao SAR government and the Macao society. In order to promote scientific decision making in the government, precise social governance and high efficiency of public services, the “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre of MPI held an online academic conference on the mentioned topic. A number of scholars from the Mainland China and Macao were invited to present their studies on the topics of improving public governance, optimizing civil society and ensuring harmonious development of the society, so as to enhance the long-term prosperity and stability of the Macao SAR.

MPI Publishes the Global Gaming & Tourism Research

Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has launched the inaugural issue of the “Global Gaming & Tourism Research”. This journal aims to implement the policy of transforming Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, as well as promoting the sustainable development of its gaming and tourism industry. “Global Gaming & Tourism Research” is a Chinese language journal that features gaming and tourism studies in the Asia-Pacific region, and it seeks to provide support for managerial decision-making and contribute to the moderate economic diversification in Macao.

MPI Professor’s book “Macao Gaming Law” has been reprinted by the People’s Publishing House

The second edition of the book “Macao Gaming Law” written by Professor Wang Changbin, Director of the Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies of MPI, has recently been republished by the People’s Publishing House, a national authoritative publishing company. This is the first book in Mainland China and Macao to systematically study and interpret Macao’s gaming law. The first edition of the book, published in 2012, won the Merit Award of the 4th Outstanding Achievement Awards for Macao Research in Humanities and Social Sciences in 2015.

MPI’s Research on Decision-making Models Published in Renowned International Academic Journal

Dr. Song-Kyoo (Amang) Kim’s research article on a stochastic decision-making model, titled “A Versatile Stochastic Duel Game”, was recently published in the renowned international academic journal “Mathematics”. “Mathematics” is ranked in the top 8.6% of JCR mathematics journals, and is indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and Scopus with a high impact factor.

Macao Polytechnic Institute has published the new issue of the Journal of One Country Two Systems Studies (Issue 44). First printed in August 2009, this academic periodical is published by “One Country, Two Systems” Research Centre of MPI, with the objective to give the public an insight into the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, promote research on topics related to governance and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, maintain the progress of the SAR society, and establish an academic platform for the study of “One Country, Two Systems”.

MPI and Porto Launch the First Portuguese International Academic Journal in Asia

Macao Polytechnic Institute and the University of Porto in Portugal jointly present Orientes do Português, the first Portuguese international academic journal in Asia, published by the Centre for Portuguese Studies of Macao Polytechnic Institute and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. On June 6, Macao Polytechnic Institute’s (MPI) research patent in Big Data Application, “Canarin: A cloud-based real-time environmental monitoring system”, was invited by the University of Bologna, Italy, to be presented at the G7-Environment 2017 of the 43rd G7 Summit held in Italy, and was commended by experts and scholars from all over the world. To promote cross-cultural / cross-country dialogue and national cooperation, interaction, unity and sustainable development, forums devoted to environment, health, transportation, culture, science, agriculture, finance, labor etc. have been convened. Fruitful Achievement of Sino-Portuguese Cooperation
MPI Portuguese Language Teaching Materials Distributed in China

With the rapid development of economic and trade relations between China and Lusophone countries, cooperation has become more frequent in talent development and cultural exchanges. The Macao Polytechnic Institute has been engaged in Chinese-Portuguese translation teaching and research for more than a century, with the strongest team of experienced teachers and translators in China and even Asia. With the support of Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau SAR Government, MPI has further strengthened and fostered the cooperation on Portuguese teaching and research. Over the past decade, the number of higher education institutions offering bachelor’s degree programmes in Portuguese language has risen dramatically from 6 to 26. Macao higher education institutions and educational organizations have also launched various Portuguese language courses. In order to tackle the problem of a lack of Portuguese language teaching materials and the standardisation of Portuguese language teaching in higher education institutions, MPI and the University of Lisbon have jointly compiled three sets of teaching materials for students and teachers, entitled Português Global, with audio-visual discs for teaching.

The book of Professor Shaw Chong-Hai, honorary professor of MPI, Comparing the community relationships between Macao and Taiwan: From the perspective of oceanic, colonial and immigrant culture, has been published. The book analyses the difference of the development of economic and society in Taiwan and Macao from three perspectives: colonial, immigrant and oceanic culture.

MPI Journal Ranks 6th in the “Duplicated Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals” Rankings

Renmin University of China's (RUC) “Duplicated Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals” Rankings 2014 and the 2014 Research Report on Reprinted Academic Directory for Duplicated Materials from Newspapers and Periodicals were announced in Beijing on March 31, 2015. About 400 guests attended the news conference including department heads of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China, and experts and scholars from the field of evaluation of achievement in research in humanities and social sciences, as well as representatives from academic journals and academic institutions.
