Dr Lang Bin
Associate Professor from School of Health Science

Traditional adrenal surgery has been described as highly complex, with a multiplicity of complications and high mortality rate and some patients experiencing high blood pressure after surgery. There was previously no particular scheme to refer to for this kind of surgery. Under the supervision of Dr Zhang Xu, Lang Bin began his PhD study of laparoscopic adrenalectomy in 2004, continuing with his research in this field after arriving to work at Macao Polytechnic Institute and building a research team including doctors working at different hospitals in Mainland China. After ten years of fundamental study and improvements in techniques, they have successfully established a scheme for doctors to refer to regarding laparoscopic adrenalectomy. This has become the mainstream for minimally invasive adrenal surgery in China, benefiting all sufferers of adrenal disease. The team’s research output has been awarded the Hubei Provincial Science & Technology Progress Award (First Prize) and the Ministry of Education Science & Technology Progress Award (Second Prize).

Dr Lang Bin's project, entitled “Minimally Invasive Surgical Treatment and Fundamental Study on Adrenal Diseases” was awarded National Science & Technology Progress Award (Second Prize) in 2013, thus attracting national recognition for progress in science and technology as well as enhancing the academic status of Macao Polytechnic Institue.
