Introduction：

佐賀一郎將在講座中立足於文字設計（Typography）的立場闡述其思考的視覺傳達設計的內涵。其內容包括文字與圖像、文字資訊與文字的型態等的相關思考。在此基礎上，還將通過回顧日本金屬活字的發展歷程來討論文字設計的本質。講座的關心之處在於如何能立足於實踐的、文化的、歷史的層面，在關注設計的功能性與表現性的同時，明確視覺設計究竟“是什麼？”“為誰服務”“如何服務”等課題。

Ichiro Saga will present his thoughts on the implications of visual communication design from the perspective of typography in the seminar. His discussion will cover relevant considerations regarding the relationship between text and imagery, as well as the interplay between textual information and the forms of text. Building on this foundation, he will also explore the essence of typography by reviewing the historical development of metal type in Japan.

The seminar will focus on how to ground these considerations in practical, cultural, and historical contexts, while simultaneously addressing key questions about the functionality and expressiveness of design, specifically: What is visual design? Who does it serve? How does it serve?
