Corporation visit to the Grand Lisboa Palace ResortOn 25 September 2024 the Year 2 students of Bachelor of Management Programme, led by Dr Sarah Ip Wai Sa, visited the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort. During the corporation visit, the students were toured at the deluxe guest rooms, the Jardim Secreto, the food digester, staff canteen and also the artwork lobby of Grand Lisboa Palace Resort. All students gained a deeper understanding of the corporate culture as well as both the guest and staff facilities of the Resort. This corporation visit not only broadened students' horizons at the corporative management field on-site, but also deepened students' understanding of local company operations, hospitality culture, and more importantly the corporate sustainability practice. |
Equity Research Competition 2024The Faculty of Business held “Equity Research Competition 2024” on Sep. 20, 2024 and 20 students from Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics formed 4 teams to compete by doing an analysis report and making presentation on TENCENT, a public company listed in Hong Kong. The top two teams were recommended by the Faculty of Business to participate the CFA Local Final of Research Challenge 2024-25 (hosted by CFA Society Hong Kong), which is a global competition designed to promote best practices in research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis. |

Researches and Projects for the Master of Science in Finance with Data AnalyticsDr. Billy Yu in the Faculty of Business (FCG) in Macao Polytechnic University hosted a seminar for the Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics. It was to facilitate students in setting out for some decent research projects. All together 41 students attended the seminar from 6pm to 7pm in M611 Meng Tak Building on 16 April 2024. This seminar introduced the concepts in conducting research and project in a master degree, particularly, the Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics. It covered differentiation between research and project, their relations and common factors, which most students overlook. It also presented some previous project highlights and illustrations of projects related to cryptocurrencies on deep learning, from a finance perspective, by some current elite students (Miss Anita Dai, Miss Melody Yang and Mr. Cooper Zhang). DATA-DRIVEN FUTURES - EXAMINING EMERGING TRENDS IN ANALYTICS AND INSIGHTSOn Jan. 31, two professionals Dr. Titania Kwan and Ms. Anson Chan from SAS were invited to our Faculty for a career talk. They introduced to our student the uses of analytical tools (including SAS, Python and R, etc.) and the trends skill requirements in the world of data-related careers. On top of our academic knowledge, they explained the career in data analytics in work setting. They expanded our horizons from an enterprise perspective with issues like management communication, data governance, and AI ethics; and students benefit from their advices on attitudes, career choices and office skills. |
2024 PPT Production and Presentation ContestThe "2024 PPT Production and Presentation Contest" organized by our Faculty was held on January 24, 2024 in Lecture Theatre No.2, 1/F of Wui Chi Building. Six contestants produced exquisite PPTs and delivered introductions in either Chinese or English, receiving recognition and praise from the judges. This competition helps students enhance their abilities in PPT creation, public speaking, and collaborative communication. |
MPU Students Won the Championship in the 2023 Global Management Challenge Macao Regional CompetitionThe final round of the 2023 Global Management Challenge “Bank of China Trophy” organized by the Macao Management Association was held on January 19th. A total of 106 teams participated in the Macao regional competition. The team named "Earnnnnmoney," composed of students from the Master of Business Administration programme at Macao Polytechnic University and supervised by Associate Professor Hsiao Yu Ling, won the championship. They will represent Macao in the international finals to be held in New Delhi, India, where they will compete against elite participants from around the world for the prestigious global championship. |
Seminar: Presentation SkillsThe Faculty of Business invited Dr. Lam Chan Sing, Chairman of Macao Speech and Debate Association, to give lectures on public speaking skills to students in master's and bachelor's degree programs. During the lecture, students showed their involvement in the live interaction and the speaker's vivid examples and actively answered questions. They practiced the basic skills such as body movements, speaking speed, and tone that should be paid attention to when giving speeches. The lecture ended with warm applause. |
Workshop: Introduction to Survey Data Analysis – 2024A workshop on the use of IBM SPSS 26.0 in survey data analysis was organized by Dr. Jennifer Gao and Prof. W.M To of the Faculty of Business, Macao Polytechnic University. MPU's 2024 Open Day showcased outstanding teaching and research achievements with enthusiastic responseThe “Macao Polytechnic University Open Day 2024” was held on 6 January and has showcased the characteristics of the University’s educational approach, information on degree programmes, achievements in teaching and research, social services, and achievements as a result of international cooperation. This was done through a series of activities such as degree programme seminars, guidance sessions for further studies, thematic exhibitions, campus tours, workshops, experiential sessions as well as exchange sessions with graduates. The Open Day has attracted nearly 3000 participants, including recent high school graduates, elites, students and parents, making a very lively event. |
Students from the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Gaming and Recreation Management at MPU have received the Merit Award in Economic Essay CompetitionStudents from the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Gaming and Recreation Management at Macao Polytechnic University have received the Merit Award at the 13th Economic Essay Competition organized by the Macau Economic Association. The essay titled "SPSS Study on the High-Quality Development of Macao Gaming Enterprises - Analysis Combining Corporate Culture and Green Innovation Theory," authored by Leong Ka Io, Ho Rocman and Ng Mei Hong, has been honored with the Merit Award in the Open Category of this year's essay competition. The competition attracted numerous submissions, with research topics focusing on significant issues such as the moderate diversification of the economy in Macao, the development of emerging industries in Macao, and the Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin. |
Faculty of Business teachers and students visited financial institutions in Zhuhai to promote external exchanges and broaden the horizons of teachers and studentsOn November 10, 2023, under the leadership of Dean Huang Guihai of the Faculty of Business, a total of 40 teachers and students from the Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics Program visited Zhuhai financial institutions and financial management departments. The teachers and students first came to the Zhuhai Software Development Center of ICBC. The person in charge gave a detailed introduction to each branch of the center and related functions, and explained the center’s campus recruitment and intern recruitment over the years. During the visit, the students actively communicated with the person in charge of the software development center and staff, and gained an in-depth understanding of the role of financial technology in bank operation and management. Later, the teachers and students came to the Hengqin New Area Financial Development Bureau. The person in charge of the Financial Development Bureau and staff of relevant departments organized a symposium to give a detailed introduction to the financial and financial support policies and investment absorption of the Guangdong-Macao in-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Questions such as how to obtain recruitment information are answered. Dean Huang Guihai introduced the exchanges between the Faculty of Business and the Financial Development Bureau in recent years, and hoped that the two sides could strengthen cooperation in the future to help students integrate theory with practice and integrate into the development of the Bay Area. At the meeting, the students spoke actively and discussed in depth issues such as employment, investment absorption and corporate subsidies in the Guangdong-Macao in-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. |
Seminar on Entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay AreaIn collaboration with Cyberport Hong Kong, the Bachelor of E-Commerce Programme hosted a seminar focusing on entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area on 3 November in the afternoon. The event was attended by approximately 40 senior students from the Faculty of Business. It ignited their enthusiasm for adopting an innovative and entrepreneurial approach in their future careers. Through its interactive nature, the session provided an experiential learning platform, significantly enriching the students' educational journey. |
Seminar: Financial Statements and Investment AnalysisThe Faculty of Business had invited Mr. Wallace Cheung, the former Head of Internet Research at Credit Suisse, the former Vice President at Alibaba Group, and the founder and CEO of the fintech startup Invobots, to give a seminar on “Financial Statements and Investment Analysis” to the teachers and students of our Faculty. Mr. Cheung combined practical examples such as Tencent and BYD to explain the importance of Balance Sheets, Cash Flow Statements and Income Statements, as well as how to find investment opportunities from the notes and details of these statements, allowing students to gain valuable practical experience. |
CFA Institute Research Challenge 2023-24 : MPU screening competitionCFA Institute hosted a global Research Challenge 2023-24 and each invited university could recommend two teams to participate. As an invited university, MPU conducted a screening competition which was hosted by our Faculty via online meeting. There were a total of 8 teams registered. After fierce competition, two teams composed of students from the Master of Science in Finance and Data Analytics won and will represent MPU to participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2023-24. |
Seminar: Managing Information Technology in Enterprise settings the future, the role of auditing and opportunitiesThe Faculty of Business held a career seminar on Managing Information Technology in Enterprise at M609, 6/F Meng Tak Building on September 20, 2023. It was organized by Dr. Billy Yu, Professor W.M. To. and Mr. Vincent Leung. The seminar attracted twenty-two students and three faculty members. The speakers were Mr. Terry Chung (the President of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Macao Chapter and the Managing Director of TopSOC Information Security Limited) and Miss Judy Wong (board member of the Information ISACA Macao Chapter). They described the roles in managing Information Technology in the Enterprise settings, and explained job functions like IT auditing, compliance, the career landscape and provided advices for undergraduates. They also shared their experience and knowledge of the profession. The seminar lasted for about an hour and a half started from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. A number of questions about the career and the profession were answered and the audience expressed gratitude to the speakers for delivering such an informative career seminar. |
MPU held an Orientation activity for “Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics” ProgramThe Faculty of Business of Macao Polytechnic University recently held an Orientation activity for “Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics” Program in Lecture Theatre 2 of Wui Chi Building. Dr. Samuel Huang, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Dr. Xiang Xin, Assistant Program Coordinator of“Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics” Program, Prof. Jimmy Kwan, Prof. Victor Chan, Dr. Thomas Li, Mr. Vincent Leung and more than 80 master’s students attended the event. At the orientation activity, teachers warmly welcomed new students, encouraged them to study diligently, actively participate in physical exercises, make full use of various opportunities provided by the university and society, and consciously grow into financial professionals who love the country and Macao. Dean Huang also explained to the students the program structure, study plan, and other matters that needed attention. He also shared information on a number of professional competitions worthy of participation by students, and encouraged students to train themselves by participating in professional competitions outside the classroom. Finally, all the teachers and students present interacted with each other on issues related to courses, study, and life. The " Master of Science in Finance with Data Analytics" Program is one of the new master's degree programs offered by Macao Polytechnic University in conjunction with the SAR government's "1+4" moderately diversified economic development policy. Among the many applicants, more than 80 students stood out and became the first cohort of graduate students of this program. |

Board members attending the meeting included Mr. Raymond Yap, Senior Director – Integrated Resort Services of Galaxy Entertainment Group; Mr. Loi Chi Kong, Banking Business Consultant of Bank of China (Macau Branch); Ms. Grace Cheung, Senior Advisor of PricewaterhouseCoopers; Mr. Raymond Bao, Vice President of Banco Tai Fung; Mr. Allan Chung, Vice President of Ecommerce and Digital Transformation of Sands China Ltd; Ms. Catherine Lee, Vice President of Joyer Group; and Ms. Michelle Lio, Vice President of Strategy and Analytics of Melco Resorts & Entertainment. The Dean and Program Coordinators of the Faculty of Business reported to the Advisory Board the main work of the Faculty of Business in the past year and the focus of future work. In particular, the newly offered Master of Science in Finance and Data Analysis received a very enthusiastic response, and the number of applicants greatly exceeded expectations. The Advisory Board affirmed and appreciated the work of the Faculty in the past year, and also expressed some of their views, including the latest political and economic changes and the impact of technological development on education, such as the application of artificial intelligence in teaching and research. The members spoke freely and insightfully into the future development of the Faculty. |
MPU Holds 2023 Graduation Ceremony with Over 800 Graduates Embark on a New JourneyThe Macao Polytechnic University Graduation Ceremony for Academic Year 2022/2023 was held at 4:00 pm on May 31st at the university's multi-sport pavilion. The national flag was raised and the national anthem was sung at the graduation ceremony. More than 800 students from doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree programs graduated. At the ceremony, honorary doctoral degrees were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding academic achievements and significant contributions to social and educational development. Ms. Ao Ieong U, representative of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and chancellor of University Council, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, expressed that the SAR government will continue to support the university's commitment to the education policy of "dual emphasis on teaching and research", cultivate more outstanding talents for Macao and the country, and create better scientific research results. |

Macau Tax Incentive Practices in the Greater Bay AreaMr. Jason Cheung, partner of Keng Ou CPAs, was invited by the Faculty of Business to conduct a talk on Macau Tax Incentive Practices in the Greater Bay Area to MPU students. Mr Cheung delivered the outline of the GBA development and related tax incentive schemes, especially about Macau company and personal tax incentive issues in Guangdong-Macao In Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The talk helps accounting and business students broadening the knowledge of taxation for future career development. |
MPU Hosts Seminar on The Strategic Transformation of Cathay under PandemicIn order to broaden the horizons of students and let them know more about corporate management and crisis handling, the Management Program of the Faculty of Business at MPU recently invited Ms. Betty Leong, Head of Market& Business Development, Asia Miles Macau of Cathay Pacific to host a seminar entitled "The strategic transformation of Cathay under pandemic". The content of the seminar included how Cathay Pacific survived in the post-COVID-19 pandemic, how they implemented structural restructuring to increase income and reduce expenditure, and how they reorganized market positioning and carried out brand reform to achieve strategic transformation. This seminar will help students of Management Program to better apply management knowledge and achieve better learning outcomes through real business cases and interactions with industry executives. |

On-line Seminar: Soundscape – A review and applicationsESCE faculty members and students attended an informative and entertaining seminar in Room M610 delivered by Miss Carmen Ng of ESG Matters Asia on 17 March 2021. The seminar used virtual meeting solutions while Miss Carmen Ng made her presentation at Hong Kong Cyberport. Miss Carman Ng introduced the definition and conceptual framework of soundscape based on ISO 12913-1:2014. She shared with faculty members and students on how soundscape is embedded as one of the key components of a smart city and soundscape studies have been carried out in Hong Kong for planning new towns. She also reported that auralization and visualization have been integrated in various augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. |
Seminar on Guidance of Accounting PracticumMr Leong Kam Chun CPA , Managing Partner of Keng Ou CPA Firm, and the other two partners, Mr Jason Cheung and Jimmy Lai conducted a successful guidance talk on Mar.9 to our Accounting Program students on how to prepare and perform for Accounting Practicum. Mr Leong introduced the background of Macao Accounting industry, the Accounting working environment and requirements. Mr Jason Cheung and Mr Jimmy Lai, shared skills and experiences of Accounting office work, professional accounting examination, practicum preparation, interview techniques and Accounting practicum work duties. Finally Mr Leong conducted a Q&A session to students for answering student enquiries. |
MPI and Sands China Limited held a sharing session on e-commerce cooperation in the integrated resort industryThe School of Business of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and Sands China Limited (SCL) held a sharing session on e-commerce cooperation in the integrated resort industry. The guests from SCL included Mr. Paulo Cheong, Vice President of Human Resources, Mr. Allan Chung, Executive Director of Digital Marketing and e-Commerce, Ms. Candy Ng, Associate Director of Human Resources, and Ms. Sonia Da Conceicao, Manager of Human Resources, amongst others. The MPI representatives were Dr. Samuel Huang, Director of School of Business of MPI, Dr. Linda Lai, Programme Coordinator of Bachelor of E-Commerce, Ms. Christy Cheong, Acting Head of Academic Affairs Department, and Ms. Alice Lao, Head of Student Affairs Office. Two SCL business analysts Mr. Casper Wong and Mr. Gabriel Ho, who were alumni of the E-Commerce Programme of MPI, shared their experience on their journey from school to the workplace. More than 80 people attended the sharing session, including students and teachers from the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme. |

MPI’s Bachelor of Accounting passed Learning Programme Review by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ)The Bachelor of Accounting programme of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) has successfully passed the Learning Programme Review conducted by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). This marks the first degree programme in the field of accounting to have passed an international academic review in Macao. The panel gave very positive feedback to the programme regarding its teaching, academic development and research capabilities which together create an excellent learning environment for students. Having previously been accredited by professional bodies such as the CPA Australia and ACCA UK, this successful international review has highlighted the superb quality of higher education in Macao and is yet another demonstration of MPI’s excellence in teaching. Following this positive exercise, MPI’s academic endeavours will be further intensified to contribute to the nurturing of talents for Macao and neighbouring regions. |
Sharing Session by Alumnus Ye Tiansheng: MPI's Spirit Guides Us Through Life's ChallengesMacao Polytechnic Institute held a “Sharing Session by Alumnus Ye Tiansheng: MPI's Spirit Guides Us Through Life's Challenges”, in which the alumnus from the Bachelor of E-Commerce Programme Mr. Ye Tiansheng was invited to share with MPI students his experience of further study in the United States of America and of being an entrepreneur, and especially to convey a positive message to his junior classmates and to encourage them to follow their dreams. The sharing session attracted nearly 100 students and academic staff members to attend. |
