Roshelle A. Sabido (Head of Bachelor of Sciences in Business Administration Program, St. Rita's College of Balingasag)

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the influence of the independent variables on students’ performance in a private higher education institution utilizing the descriptive-correlational and causal research designs. Samples were taken proportionately from the five different programs of the institution. Six hundred thirty-three students were enrolled during the first semester of the academic year 2020-2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mean and standard deviation were the descriptive statistics used to determine students’ readiness, attitudes, and social-emotional competencies. Pearson Product – Moment Correlation was utilized to determine the relationship between students’ performance, readiness, attitudes, and social-emotional competencies toward online learning. Multiple Regression was used to identify variables influencing students’ performance. Results show that students have a high level of online readiness. However, they have low-level online communication skills, study habits, access to the internet, and face-to-face preference. The students have a high level of competencies in terms of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship management, and responsible decision-making. The students are performing well online. Online readiness has the strongest influence, followed by attitudes toward online learning and social-emotional competencies. Based on the study findings, development programs are proposed to the school administrators.
