                             To  introduce  students  to  the  physical  properties  of  speech  sounds.  Contents:  Topics
                             include acoustic theory of speech production, development of analytical tools, acoustic
                             features of speech signals, factors that affect acoustics, and acoustic properties of speech
                             disorders.

                             Application
                             To  introduce  students  to  the  theories  and  methods  of  behavior  modification,  which
                             students  can  apply  to  daily  life.  Contents:  Topics  include  the  principles  and  various
                             strategies of behavior modification.

                 STCA2101      Essentials  of  Clinical  Audiology  and  3   45 hrs   ---
                             Hearing Disorders
                             To introduce students to hearing assessment and common hearing disorders. Contents:
                             Topics  include  the  principles,  procedures,  and  interpretation  of  various  assessment
                             methods in audiology, which include behavioral tests, physiological tests and special tests.
                             This course also covers different types of hearing disorders and their clinical features, as
                             well as management and counseling of hearing loss.
                 STCD2102      Child Language Disorders        3       45 hrs    ---
                             To equip students with the professional knowledge and skills relevant to child language
                             disorders.  Contents:  This  course  covers  the  basic  concepts  of  language  disorders  in
                             children,  including  behavioral  characteristics,  developmental  patterns,  and  theories  of
                             etiology. The basic principles of assessment and intervention in the areas of phonology,
                             semantics, morphology, syntax, and pragmatics are also addressed.
                 STCO2101      Counseling   in   Communication  2      30 hrs    ---
                             Disorders
                             To equip students with the skills for counseling patients with communication disorders and
                             their  families.  Contents:  Topics  include  attending  and  listening,  facilitative  holistic
                             attributes  of  counseling  interview,  specific  facilitative  interviewing  behaviors,  more
                             advanced  interviewing  and  counseling  skills,  non-facilitative  holistic  attributes  of
                             counseling  interview,  common  issues  encountered  in  counseling,  narrative  therapy,
                             counseling with parents of children and adolescents with later-developing communication
                             disorders,  counseling  adults  and  their  families  for  whom  progression  is  toward
                             improvement, and counseling adults and their families for whom progression is toward
                             deterioration.
                 STCS2102      Case  Study  of  Speech  Disorders  in  2   30 hrs   ---
                             Children

                             To  equip  students  with  a  better  understanding  of  speech  disorders  and  language
                             development  in  children.  Contents:  Through  case  discussion,  students  will  apply
                             professional knowledge to analyze the clinical features of patients with speech disorders
                             and develop appropriate management plans.
