Innovation in Motion @MPU Open Day

Despite the chilly January breeze in Macao, MPU’s Open Day, themed “Innovation and Excellence at MPU,” energised 3,000 secondary students, parents and educators getting engaged in its interactive learning environment. From insightful academic lectures to art exhibitions and fitness assessments, the event provided a comprehensive glimpse into the University’s endeavours that foster the fusion of technology and humanities. It showcased MPU’s cutting-edge research and lively campus life, leaving visitors inspired and connected.



A Congregation for Education Leaders

The opening ceremony brought together esteemed figures in the education sector, including Cen Jiayi, Director of the Higher Education Division of the Education and Youth Work Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Carlos Roberto Xavier, Head of the Department of Tertiary Education of the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macao SAR government; MPU Rector Professor Im Sio Kei; as well as principals and representatives from over 30 secondary schools in Macao. In his speech, Rector Im highlighted the University’s remarkable progress made possible with the support from both the motherland and the Macao SAR government. He emphasised MPU’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary excellence and nurturing innovative talents with global vision to meet the evolving needs of Macao’s socio-economic development.

Exploring Future Pathways

The Open Day featured a diverse array of activities, including programme induction sessions, thematic exhibitions, hands-on workshops, interactive experiences, alumni sharing sessions, admission consultations, and campus tours. Attendees were fully immersed in the MPU experience, exploring its academic strengths and campus life.

Across campus, various activity stations drew eager crowds, sparking curiosity and inspired students to envision their future academic and career paths. Attendees were amazed by showcases of AI-powered applications in various fields, such as AI-assisted basketball game analysis, real-time AI-powered translation, and big data assessments for fitness. Simultaneously, art workshops encouraged students to unleash their creativity by crafting personalised keepsakes. The nursing skills booth provided hands-on training in CPR and wound care, offering practical and life-saving knowledge.

The Open Day served as a platform for students to explore their options and chart their academic journeys. Faculty members, current students, and alumni engaged with prospective students and parents. They shared insights into the University’s programmes, research advancements, and career prospects, helping them make informed decisions about their academic pursuits.

Participants shared overwhelmingly positive feedback about their experience at the Open Day. Many expressed their excitement about joining MPU, while others found the programme introduction sessions and AI-powered games particularly insightful. With its engaging mix of education and hands-on experiences, the Open Day left a lasting impression on attendees.
